accepting an L: s4 e13
i can own my Ls when i take them: i was wrong about s4 e13 being some type of grand, emotional ending.
in true ososan fashion, it was a bunch of parodies that ended up not being able to be aired because of copyright.
thanks to @mushimatsu and a comment in this reddit post by foxy_vixy2323 for identifying all the songs that were being parodied. i just wanted to add some visuals so you could get a sense of how accurate some of these were lol
Tsuppari Hatabou Rock 'n Roll vs. Tsuppari High School Rock'n Roll (Toko-hen) — Yokohama Ginbae (横浜銀蝿) — 1981
the sunglasses paired with the leather jackets were very karamatsu esque imo lol
Karamtasu Samba vs Oyome Samba — Hiromi Go (郷ひろみ) — 1981
i was cracking up at karamtsu's little jig that he does until i watched the music video and this dude was pulling the exact same dance moves. the animators nailed it
Akatsuka 2-gou vs Azusa 2-go — Kariudo (狩人) — 1977
dekapan's underpants striped green and black to match the green shirt is actually killing me. also the fact that the og is about reminiscing on a first love that ended in heartbreak and the parody is about showing nipples and sucking is awesome
DEATH FIRE vs. DESIRE - Jonetsu Akina Nakamori (中森明菜) — 1987
esper nyaa making his first appearance in decades just to be a background dancer for ichimatsu gives me the visual that ichimatsu had to call in a favor and convince him to do this
Gag Dayo Jinsei wa vs Naniwabushi Dayo Jinsei wa — Takashi Hosokawa (細川たかし) — 1984
this one was so cute ngl but reading the lyrics "they'd laugh at me and call me short and stupid" while chibita is singing so beautifully made me chuckle a bit can't lie
Chorokoi vs Hatsukoi — Kozo Murashita (村下孝蔵) — 1983
i will admit: i thought the fact that there was a middle schooler in the background was just a creepy choromatsu thing and the umbrella would be the aspect parodied from the real song. but no, they added the umbrella in and kept the teen girl
Jyushi ni Kisu Shite vs Kiss wa Me ni Shite! — The Venus (ザ・ヴィーナス) — 1981
this one is interesting because i feel like they tried their hardest to parody it without being TOO close to the original. like a lot of the aspects of the music video are omitted and they added this psychedelic eye in the background that was NOT in the og song to match jyushi's absurdist energy lmaoo
Suekko Heart no Komoriuta vs Gizagiza Heart no Komoriuta — The Checkers (チェッカーズ) — 1984
suekko means the youngest lmao. similar to jyushi, they actually strayed very far from the setting of the original music video, which takes place in a forest. that said, i feel like this parody sounds the most like the original song. (i truly apologize for how bad this screenshot is i tried my best)
Katte ni Suru Zansu vs. Katte ni Shiyagare — Kenji Sawada (沢田研二) — 1977
this screenshot also sucks, but just know that he's throwing his hat into the crowd. also i like that they added eyeshadow to iyami despite it not being in the music video because kenji sawada has some pics wearing eyeshadow
Osomatsu no Melody vs. Otokotachi no Melody — SHOGUN — 1979
i love that oso isn't even playing the guitar he's just holding it the entire time lmao give kara his guitar back. i like that they kept the lighting turning blue mid-song from the music video lol
Neet Paradise vs Paradise Ginga — Hikaru GENJI (光GENJI) — 1988
this screenshot also sucks because they're constantly moving and roller skating in the video lol. this parody felt very fitting bc the original song is about escaping reality into a dream world that adults can't find lmaooo
all in all, even though i was completely and utterly wrong about what the last episode was about, i found myself smiling the whole way through. it did feel like a good conclusion to a whole season that was entirely dedicated to showa era references. i almost respect it MORE that an extra emotionally charged last episode, if only for the fact that it honestly wouldn't have felt earned.
i think the episode would've been was more fun if i had known any of these songs prior to watching the episode, but hopefully you can appreciate it more knowing them now.
