Finally joining the Trustbites month!
Louis and Owen were laughing uncontrollably. They didnât even remember why. All they knew was that Louis had said something so unbelievably stupid that it had left both men almost paralysed, unable to stop the sounds of joy.
Owen finally started regaining his breath, and Louis let his own laugh turn into a small chuckle, before stopping it completely. His face hurt from smiling, but he didnât care. He was with the love of his life, and that was all that mattered.
Owenâs curly chocolate brown hair fell on the tanned skin of his beautiful face. Before he knew it, Louis was cupping Owenâs cheeks, taking in his beauty, thinking about how lucky he was to be his partner. A blush was spread across Owenâs face, reflecting the blush Louis knew he himself had.
Suddenly, Owenâs smile dropped. Averting Louisâ eyes, he gently pushed Louisâ caring hands away.
It felt like Louisâ unbeating heart was in his throat. Had he done something to upset Owen? Maybe Owen wasnât in the mood for physical contact todayâŚand Louis had forgotten to askâŚwhy did he forget to ask? He felt terrible, but he knew it was best to not jump to conclusions. He might not even be the reason for his loverâs mood change, it was best to ask Owen what happened.
âWhat happened, Owen? WasâŚwas it something I didâŚ?â Louis asked, his tone soft and loving.
Owenâs eyes went wide. âOf course not!â In Owenâs opinion, Louis could do no wrong.
Louis breathed a sigh of relief, before asking,
âWould you be comfortable saying what caused the mood change? I do not mind if not, I wonât force youâŚâ His gaze was filled with understanding.
Owen paused, trying to gather his words together.
âWhy donât you treat me like everyone else does? How are you not disgusted by meâŚ?â
âOwenâŚâ Louisâ heart was breaking. He could never do that to OwenâŚ
Owen continued. âWhy are you so kind to me? How are you not afraid of contamination? How can you bring yourself to touch me-â
âOwen.â Louis repeated, much firmer this time. The lumberjack brought his eyes up to meet the mayorâs. Louis stared into the beautiful brown pools of sadness as he spoke.
âYou will never be disgusting to me. You are beautiful, and you deserve love. You deserve kindness. I will never pull away from you. I would rather take the risk of getting infected and die with you than live without you.â
Saying this made Louisâ heart ache. He was a vampire, and would outlive Owen by centuries. Unless he offered to turn Owen. But he wouldnât do it yet. Not now.
He continued. âPlease, donât put yourself down like thisâŚâ
That was all the lumberjack needed to let his emotions out through his tears. Owen put his head on Louisâ body, sobbing into his chest. The mayor brought his hands around Owen and hugged him tightly, holding his thin frame close. He pressed his lips to Owenâs head as the lumberjack cried.
A few minutes went by until Owen slowly pulled his head from Louisâ shirt, now wet with tears.
âHow do you feel?â Louis asked, softly stroking Owenâs hair with one hand, the other around his waist.
âBetterâŚâ Owen whispered. âYouâre the only one in my life thatâs ever shown me kindness. Sometimes I feel like I donât deserve it.â
Louis sat Owen down on a cushioned chair before squeezing next to him and kissing his cheek. âBut you do deserve kindness. You deserve the world. And I promise to treat you with the love you deserve, forever.â
âForever?â The lumberjack muttered, leaning against Louis as he looked up at him.
Louis kissed him. He could taste the salt of tears faintly on Owenâs tongue.
