A Bottle In Hand

I’m not generally a fan of rum but this stuff is incredible. That it’s aged in Oloroso sherry casks gives it a flavour somewhere between sherry bomb scotches like Glendronach and XO cognacs. I’ve never had anything like it and I can’t wait to get my hands on some more.

This was a beautifully smooth and balanced scotch. I’d never tried Ancnoc before but I am now a convert.

A very smooth and somewhat sherry sweet whisky, beautifully balanced and very drinkable.

Most definitely one of the better bourbons I’ve tasted lately. It was very smooth, the right level of sweet, and with lovely fruit notes from the PX sherry cask finish. There aren’t too many bourbons on my “buy it if I see it” list but this one has just been added.

This is a delightful, precise, and very straightforward whisky. My cousin picked this up at the Suntory Distillery where apparently the tour guides were pushing it as some sort of special “distillery only” release. They opted for this over the 12 and 18 year old releases. Oh well… it’s still good and at least it wasn’t too expensive. This is actually important given that bottles of The Yamazaki 12 retail for the absurd price of $400 CAD in Ontario.

It’s a bit sharp and has a definite bite on the first sip but deeper inside there are some really interesting flavours.

This was such a smooth and wonderful wine.

A pretty decent mid-tier bourbon. Not bad at all but nothing special beyond this joke a friend told me: if you make a Paper Plane with this you could call it a Jefferson Airplane.

Tried this at a local whisky bar and it was delightful. Somewhat soft and reminiscent of a well balanced Highland single malt.

There is something so precise and well balanced with good Japanese whiskies, and this is most certainly one of the better ones.

This is one of the most beautiful whiskies I’ve ever tasted. It’s pure alchemy.

I don’t post wine here a lot but was beautiful and felt really well balanced to me. Quite dry, not too much tannin, and with a lovely array of notes including berries and some light tobacco spice.

Brilliantly smooth and slightly sweet, very well balanced as one would expect from a Japanese whiskey.

A very interesting bourbon. Not only does finishing in red wine casks give it a lovely dark ruby colour, it has a much longer, fruitier finish. Quite different from the standard BH, and really quite delightful.

This was an exceptionally smooth, well balanced, and delightful whisky, and I feel honoured that I had the opportunity to enjoy what was likely one of the last bottles of it in existence.

A surprisingly smooth and light whisky with a hint of sweet and fruit. Consider me impressed.

This was a beautiful whisky. For my palate and preference it had the perfect balance of light smoke and sherry sweet.
