2) Marvella just happens to be the chef everywhere Cordelia Cupp goes. This is never mentioned as odd. They never interact beyond as needed for the mystery. Marvella is just there, throwing things and fucking random attractive men whose names she rarely bothers to learn.

At the end of the day, The Residence is an indictment of the wealthy’s attempts (and successes) to infiltrate the government, but more importantly a tribute to the everyday workers holding the line despite the forces trying to oust them, despite living in poverty and needing to take three buses to get to work, despite abusive relationships and coworkers who want to make you bring back the original meaning of “going postal.”

And yes, A.B.’s trusting nature got him killed, but it was by a very specific archetype and the only person given a political party: the “other” party. It’s pretty clearly implied which is which, but they intentionally didn’t state it because the house itself is apolitical in terms of left and right. No one else who wasn’t a politician was even given any indications of a political party because it doesn’t matter.

Sure it’s a little more idealistic than where we currently are (proxy Chuck Schumer and Marjorie Taylor Greene sitting next to each other comparing notes was a little too on the nose for my taste but she is the most recognizable example of a republican congressperson right now), but that’s the point. It showed us where we could be, where we should be. They showed a microcosm of it during the March 4th flashbacks, but just because it wasn’t as obvious throughout the rest of the events of the show (until the end) doesn’t mean it wasn’t there.

i think didier gotthard's particularly stood out to me, because of how explicitly close he seemed to wynter. besides jasmine, who was his assistant, wynter's relationship with the staff was either implied or a fleeting scene. out of all the people who didn't work in such close proximity with him, gotthard was the only one who acknowledged his dedication and years of service, and for someone as overworked and neglected as wynter, you can really see him break character there. he was dedicated a corner of gotthard's gingerbread house, the same one which was going to be displayed to america's most important guests.

up until lily ruined that plan and quite literally broke didier.

wynter was probably going to be appreciated for his work by people beyond the white house, a treatment he seldom received. that argument between him and gotthard really gave me a headache because how sad must it be for him to swallow his emotions and let things go under the guise of professionalism?

honestly, the scene that went from didier displaying his gingerbread houses over the years with pride and glee written all over his face to that of dejection as his house sat ignored downstairs made me tear up. he believed wynter would protect him but nobody seemed to empathize with him.

The color is bright, the dark scenes aren't hard to see stuff in, it's crisp. I have a deep fondness for being able to see the fucking screen.

ALSO also, they are really weirdly good about a tone shift when people would normally be yelling. Like, instead of making you cuss and reach for the volume because SUDDENLY YELLING right in the middle of everyone talking quietly, most of the telling is muted (toned down, but not silent). This made it REALLY easy to not worry about volume control every ten seconds.
