I Honestly Don’t Know

corey genuinely could've been a stealth predator. hiding in plain sight, stalking someone, and driving them insane. noises in the dark, shadows in the corner no one else can see, things randomly flying across the room. and while he may not be the strongest fighter, he has the upper hand because his opponent can't actually see him. they'd just be throwing shots in the dark. he could even go up against other supernatural creatures if he learned how to contain his heartbeat and control his chemosignals. if he could learn that, he'd be incredibly hard to beat.

obviously his first step would need to be learning how to fight, but i'm of the opinion that chimeras specifically have an innate ability to do so, mainly based on tracy being able to fight multiple full grown men despite likely never having been in a fight before. corey CAN fight if he just lets his instincts take over, he's just too scared of himself to give up that much control to the side of himself that he hates. my mind goes to freddy krueger whenever i think about corey using his powers to fight.

i think corey is actually quite a ruthless person. there was the way he reacted to lydia having a hole in her head in eichen house, which like, MIGHT have been larping as evil to get theo off his back. but he has a lot of moments where he can't bring himself to care about stuff. (i dont wanna list them cause i have like 50,000 times just search the corey bryant tag in my blog TRUST).

anyways. i think being severely neglected by his parents definitely did not teach him how to gaf. and this doesnt mean he doesnt have emotions, but he defiinitely has a bit of underused empathy. and i think that might be a huge part of why he's such a bystander, because he's scared of letting the power he has go to his head. he saw a little too much of himself in theo and it freaked him out. he doesn't wanna go too far. that's why he's so evasive with it.

he's got everyone convinced that he's not physically capable of fighting when in reality that couldn't be further from the truth

deaton as an emissary is a healer, who tends to the wounds of people not even under his care, who chooses not to fight but doesnt hesitate to when he needs to. he is highly knowledgeable, which speaks to a thirst for learning. in many ways, our greatest understanding of who talia is comes through seeing how deaton interacts with the world, suggesting that the emissary of a pack must be alligned with the alpha for the relationship to work.

now, stiles is ruthless about defending the people he loves, to the point of willingly enacting violence at very little warning or pressure. he has a desire to learn but also is happy to act on the little information he has. he is impulsive, rash, and kind of bitchy. all of this makes him an effective checks and balances for scott's temperment as an alpha, but it causes them to come into conflict sometimes.

and a lot of this comes down to how you prefer to interpret the role of the emissary in a pack. im an advocate of the 'bridge between human and supernatural of an alpha model', which is going to vary from alpha to alpha. deaton works with talia because she is a born wolf who needs the additional perspective, but is shown repeatedly to be fair and just, and with enough of a support system around her that she doesnt need someone to balance her actions out. derek is an alpha who would benefit from an emissary who would challenge him on his actions, because trauma has given him a warped perception of people around him - actually, stiles, who is contrarian by nature, would be very effective at forcing derek to confront his beliefs and actions in a way that allows him to act in a measured way.

but scott is already deeply invested in self criticism. he isnt impulsive or rash, he weighs up his choices almost obsessively. his singular drive is goodness, whose first instinct is to protect. he would actually be better complemented by an emissary who mirrors this, who shares his intense desire to take the broken and the damned under his wing and nurture them. who shares his curiosity but also his kindness, his protectiveness and his forgiveness. who has demonstrated an unmatched desire to learn about the supernatural with total reserved judgement.
