the more he listened off names, the more he realized just how dire their situation could sometimes be. if the strongest captains weren’t at home...how would the war play out?

HOMESICK feeling was unbearable, [ not to mention ] which Renji had his stay longer than the Ryoka around this very region. Tips and bits of this city resembled not of his town nor Soul Society. The environment emitted the gloomy ray where he first landed at, yet he escaped the gloominess fate that awaited him.

the city itself was huge and altogether unwelcoming, so he could understand the others plight. having been around off and on for over a year, Renji had his footing, more or less. which led to their current discussion-- who was in the city and who was not?
“Ichimaru Gin and that blue-haired Espada to name a few. Hell, I think there’s been more Arrancar and Quincy here than there have been Shinigami.”
( it is funny. y’work the bandanas for a reason. but hey. guess you’re in luck, then. we lost house mom the same way a few months ago. so i took up cookin’. might not be the best, but dinner’s waitin’ at home. )
“Can’t be any worse than my cooking. ‘Sides, I could eat my shoe right now.” technically it hadn’t been that long since his last large meal, but fighting had a tendency to make people hungry. “If you’re better than Inoue, we’ll have no problems.”

i’m totally up to threading with you guys, but just know that this blog is affiliated with a group, so replies to my group members come first and foremost. my threads with you guys would be regular bleach verse more than likely, as I can’t involve indies in my groups setting!
if there was one thing he believed, it was putting faith in ones comrades during battle.
so, why was it so hard to practice what he preached?
he remembered very clearly speaking to Ichigo about it once. having a lack of faith in a competent warrior’s skill on the battlefield was like an insult to that warrior. it was in that same logic that he would always find solace. it was in that logic that he would be fine with dying on the battlefield.
yet, this city made him reconsider.
after returning for what was the third time, he realized something was different than the previous time. he remembered what happened when he went home. the last time he’d been abducted was right after he’d fought that ridiculous wrestler Quincy-- a fact he could more or less live with.
he remembered it all. remembered being separated with Rukia from everyone else, remembered fighting more Quincy, remembered Urahara’s plan to break into the Soul King’s Palace, Ukitake-taichou’s sacrifice, and everything in between. and, most of all, he remembered the pressing anxiety, the fear, of running with his comrades, running and not being able to stop without being picked off by a sniper.
and then he was back in the Hive with a bad taste in his mouth and a lump in the pit of his stomach.
his comrades were capable. more than capable-- they were strong, experienced, and ready for all the lay ahead of them. so--why? why was he worrying so much for them? if they died, they died fighting for their home, a respectable death. still, the feeling that he should be home, helping them fight a terrible war when the Seireitei was already in such bad shape was ever present.
the mechanics of how the city worked, how memories worked, and how time passed when away from home was all strange to him, hard to understand. but, it didn’t seem to matter-- as much as he wanted to stay with what was like a second family in the city, he also desperately wanted to go home.
even if he was disgracing his comrades names by worrying about them so much...he simply couldn’t stop.
