A new fun design for RU. I haven't shared many of my designs lately here mostly because there's been a move away from stuff that's art centric (based on customer response). But sometimes the right idea and the right art make something fun and cool. This fits with my Baghdad Summer Camp shirt from forever ago so it's nice to see this style come back for a new shirt. Stark shapes and vintage colors. This is one of my favorite ways to build a shirt design. Today, 13 years ago, someone I've never met tried to kill me and my friends. I was lucky, and only caught a piece of shrapnel to my side. I could sit here and tell you all about the ordeal and how it all went down. Or I could simply tell you that I laughed after it happened. Like, hard. And when I had to tell my then wife, I told her 'Tis merely a flesh wound!' That probably gives more insight to how I felt about death at the time. It wasn't the last attack I would be privy to, but it was the very first. And I was lucky enough to get stuck on radio watch in country for a month while I healed. There's still the occasional ache and a little discomfort from the scar tissue. But with that comes perspective. Laugh. Smile. Love the people around you. Maelstrom's Edge. 'The Angels are restless. ' A lot of people probably don't know, but for nearly five long years, myself and a small team from around the world worked on a new science fiction tabletop miniatures game called, you guessed it, Maelstrom's Edge. We built a universe from the ground up with from humble beginnings as a few off the cuff conversations between friends to a fully fledged plastic miniatures war game. Well, as of December the game finally started to get into the hands of gamers, the novels are being read, the miniatures painted, and the artwork seen. Taking stock of all the things I've done at Ranger Up since I was hired last January. My first year with the company is quickly coming up and it's been a wild ride. From events to the movie to the insanity that was the holiday season, I've felt lucky to become part of the RU team. All of the ridiculous meetings. The dumb shit we do for videos to make people laugh. Every single project I've worked on. It all makes coming to work worthwhile. I love what I do, and I feel lucky I get to do it. I've met amazing people because of where I work, true heroes that I never thought I'd get the chance to shake hands with. I've also seen just how powerful the RU community is and to become more and more a part of that has been amazing. Thanks to everyone out there that supports what I'm doing in my little corner of the net. And thanks to everyone that wears my work proudly. Practice. To ease my mind a little. But sort of not at all. But maybe a touch because it forces me to contemplate things more. Some days I wish I could turn my fucking mind off while I worked on things. Other times I'm actively engaging thoughts I would rather bury with my work. Every piece has a little bit of therapy in it. Whether that's working through some shit or distracting me. I don't work well depressed, but if I'm down I can feel my way through something to get beyond it a little farther. I turned to art when nothing else seemed to work. True distractions were too much. I found myself too disengaged. Creating makes me feel more whole every time I do it. Life chips away at that from time to time but I just keep making things. I don't even have a record player but I had to pick this vinyl up. Love everything @actuallygrimes puts together. The art prints included may end up framed at some point. May even inspire some ink work of my own soon. In other news, I got new chucks to lift in because Arya was bored one day and the old ones are now in a landfill somewhere. I also picked up a bunch of art supplies thanks to my Ma sending me a Michael's gift card 😁.
