Today, 13 years ago, someone I've never met tried to kill me and my friends. I was lucky, and only caught a piece of shrapnel to my side. I could sit here and tell you all about the ordeal and how it all went down. Or I could simply tell you that I laughed after it happened. Like, hard. And when I had to tell my then wife, I told her 'Tis merely a flesh wound!' That probably gives more insight to how I felt about death at the time. It wasn't the last attack I would be privy to, but it was the very first. And I was lucky enough to get stuck on radio watch in country for a month while I healed. There's still the occasional ache and a little discomfort from the scar tissue. But with that comes perspective. Laugh. Smile. Love the people around you.
