Week 11
In the book, The Social Organization, there were many effective principles mentioned on building a community by using social media. To build a community, one would have to have formed a vision on what that community collaboration would look like. Vision statements are designed to provide clarity and direction, enhance buy-in, as well as lead to inspiring participation. Ā The book provided us with four techniques to develop an effective vision statement:Ā
1. Understanding when community collaboration is appropriate.Ā
2. Know where community collaboration is more likely to deliver value.Ā
3. Apply an understanding of your organizationās goals and culture.
4. Craft and distribute an organizational vision for community collaboration.Ā
Creating a vision statement requires patience. It can become a challenge.Ā
My client, Michigan Hispanic Collaborative, strives on collaboration and community. Their vision always involves the community. There are some techniques that the organization lacks, but for an organization that doesn't have many employees and just started less than 3 years ago, they are doing an excellent job understanding the principles of having an effective vision statement.Ā
