Prog - Untitled
24 x 24, acrylic on wood panel. Comments and reblogs welcome.
Since this painting is meant to be explored by touch, Iām adding a detailed description.
This painting is a commission for a wedding gift for a bride who is blind. Since she has almost no vision at all, Prog decided to make a painting that is meant to be felt, not seen.

I have been here, multiple times!Ā By referring to the order as a āLittle Rosaā, you donāt have to make as big a deal out of the fact that youāre seeking help.
And believe it or not, it gets better. Rosaās also gives out sweatshirts to the homeless (or sells them to the general public) that has information on local soup kitchens and even computer training in the area, on an insert sewn inside the sweatshirt.

Reblogged again for these excellent details.
Also you can buy slices for the homeless through their online store, from anywhere, not just PA!

Our life without non-DID multi
Like, right now, Iām trying to imagine what my life wouldāve been like if non-DID plurals hadnāt been existing publicly on the Internet.

Wow, thatās a depressing AU. Iām glad you had the multi community to turn to. Itās funny how people get all concern-trolly and pearl-clutchy about others not being diagnosed correctly and choosing the wrong label etc., but I donāt see a whole lot of harm done from taking on an incorrect label at some point in life? Like, you used to think you were ace and also a healthy multiple, but it turned out youāre gay and have DID. As far as I can see neither the ace nor healthy multi label harmed you and seem to have done a lot of good. Itās almost like having a āwrongā label is not catastrophic and is part of the process of self-discovery, while gaining the benefit of community and support along the way. Itās almost like we donāt always have to get things right on the first try in life, what a thought.
I know, right?Ā In both cases, the label proved later to be false, but I really think it wouldnāt have done me much good to discover the ārightā label too early.Ā I mean, it wasnāt like I ever had an experience of my sexuality BEFORE rape, so I never knew what this hypothetical āpureā sexuality would be.Ā I felt no attraction til I met my now-husband, so I thought I was ace, or at least with an extremely low rate of attraction.Ā I mean, how COULD I have known I was gay until I had actually been attracted to men?
And I really do think the idea that our multi was not trauma based was HUGELY useful to us at the time!Ā We COULD NOT handle our trauma history at that time.Ā To do so wouldāve⦠I mean, if Iām honest, it wouldāve ruined everything.Ā We wouldāve crashed, while still involved with our family, which wouldāve meant moving back in with them, and⦠it wouldāve been really, really bad.Ā I only see it ending with us being institutionalized, committing suicide, or ending up homeless on a more long-term basis.Ā I mean, the Homeless Year was bad, but we had long since come out, transitioned, and built up a strong support network.Ā Once it was over, we were in a position to actually DEAL with all that trauma.Ā We would not have been able to really any sooner than we were.
We needed a place to build up our in-system relationships, rules, and coping skills before we could deal with trauma.Ā I canāt imagine how disastrous it wouldāve been trying to deal with the trauma FIRST, without knowing each other and our limits and strengths.

I canāt think of a single example of any group that has gained rights or respect by aiming negativity at another group to deflect it from themselves.
Exclusionism just makes both groups look bad.
That being said, if you are acephobic, transphobic, terf, swerf, anti-endo, biphobic, ableist, or any related stripe of human being who is trying hard to gain respectability by passing on the disrespect of your oppressors to the next group down the chain:
Please donāt unfollow me. Just keep your mouth shut and listen.
While cleaning out my room I found a paper that my therapist gave me some time ago to deal with obsessive and intrusive thoughts. Sorry the paper is a little crinkled and stained, but I figured Iād post it in hopes that it will help someone like it helped me.
Here it is again with text for anyone who canāt see the picture
That thought isnāt helpful right now.
Now is not the time to think about it. I can think about it later.
This is irrational. Iām going to let it go.
I wonāt argue with an irrational thought.
This is not an emergency. I can slow down and think clearly about what I need.
This feels threatening and urgent, but it really isnāt.
I donāt have to be perfect to be OK.
I donāt have to figure out this question. The best thing to do is just drop it.
Itās OK to make mistakes.
I already know from my past experiences that these fears are irrational.
I have to take risks in order to be free. Iām willing to take this risk.
Itās OK that I just had that thought/image, and it doesnāt mean anything. I donāt have to pay attention to it.
Iām ready to move on now.
I can handle being wrong.
I donāt have to suffer like this. I deserve to feel comfortable.
Thatās not my responsibility.
Thatās not my problem.
Iāve done the best I can.
Itās good practice to let go of this worry. I want to practice.
ok but like
do you know how harmful and fucked up it is to tell every endogenic system that they are āmisguided systems with DID or OSDD1ā³?
you said that youre āhelping them find resourcesā but like
if they dont have trauma youre going to be directing them to resources that they dont need and that might confuse them or harm them
these are resources with systems with DID and OSDD1
these are resources for people with trauma that caused their systems
there are spaces for endogenic systems that can help them
these exist for a reason
they exist to help people and give them advice and support for what theyāre going through
instead of directing them to these supportive places where they can meet people like them and get help and support that they need
youre sending them to spaces for people who are specifically people with trauma and telling them that they HAVE to have trauma even if they dont
people have said a shit ton of times in those spaces that endogenic systems dont belong in spaces specifically for traumatic systems and they hate it when they end up there
it makes them feel uncomfortable and its invading their space along with hurting the confused person you were trying to āhelpāyou cant diagnose DID or OSDD1 over the internet
saying that endogenic systems all secretly have DID and OSDD1 is doing this
you are not their therapists
you have no right to tell them what disorders they have or what theyve been through
its harmful shit for everyone and it needs to stop
Iāve always wondered if this stuff was part of some bizarre abuse cycle. Like, I never understood why hate for the endogenic community exists, since plurality is such a fluid experience and systems change labels so much depending on what they know about themselves that even the DIDers who only care about DIDers alone couldā end up fucking future DID community members over. But when framed in the context of, convince endo systems they must actually have trauma even if they donāt (it should be obvious to anyone reading, but Iāll add that that is a super fucked up thing to do) -> wait for them to post in trauma specific tags because surely they must have trauma, right? -> yell about endo systems ātaking overā DID tags and use it as further leverage for why all endo systems are bad, it makes sense as a group bullying tactic.
Not saying thatās what all, or maybe even most folks out there are aiming to do, but the pervasive double think regarding why endos are simultaneously shunned from trauma-focused spaces because they donāt belong there AND simultaneously forced to conform to the standards OF those spaces is⦠interesting.
Wouldnāt be surprised if it were the result of different types of militant gatekeepers working against each other or something.
-W
Blue: Thatās kind of creepy if itās true O.O Also, on a different note⦠whatever the fuck happened to āDo not diagnose completely random strangers over the internet!ā? Like⦠guys? Basic mental health principle here?
⦠guys?
So every once in a while, up here in the frigid north, I find myself in the unenviable position of explaining the Texas penile, er, penal code to Yankees.Ā For those of you who donāt know,Ā yes, it IS still illegal to sell a dildo or a vibrator in the state of Texas. (Butt plugs are okay, since the anus is not considered a sexual orifice in the state.) The sodomy laws finally got repealed in ā03 or ā04 or so, but the sex toy laws are still on the books.Ā And it is a FELONY to own six or more, because then youāre considered a distributor.
This means that should you have the misfortune of trying to buy a sex toy in Texas, you CAN NOT call them by their names.Ā They are internal massagers or educational models. (And god have mercy on your poor kinky soul should you want a VIBRATING dildo.Ā Good luck with that!Ā Have you considered sticking with butt toys?Ā Itās easier.)
A documentary got made a while back on the whole ridiculous thing, Dildo Diaries.Ā The Youtube clip above sums it up better than I ever could, though the film predates the decriminalization of sodomy.
Now, we grew up in the state of Texas.Ā We spent more time there than anywhere else on earth.Ā We were there to celebrate when the sodomy laws got repealed!Ā This is still recent history to us!Ā And itās pretty transparently obvious that these laws exist for no other reason than to control those ofĀ ādeviantā sexuality, particularly those of women and queers.
All of which boils down to: I am hardly EVER going to be on the side of people trying to purge fandom or tumblr of āproblematicā sexuality.Ā Because for Chrissakes, I grew up not actually knowing what a sex toy was until high school, being given those awful abstinence talks where a non-virgin girl was compared to a torn-up paper heart with nothing to offer her husband.Ā I grew up in a state that seemed to hope that if it just made everything but heterosexual marital reproductive sex inconvenient, dangerous or illegal, theyād prevent those things from happening.
But the thing is, it didnāt work.Ā People still sold sex toys, still had premarital, queer, strap-on sex.Ā No matter how hard you push back, you CAN NOT STOP someone who is truly determined from having the sex you morally disapprove of.Ā You just drive it underground.
It bothers me to see ostensibly radical people on tumblr trying to enforce the same sort of seuxal āpurityā politics I saw in Texas, just cloaked in psuedoprogressivism instead of Bible-thumping.
Honestly āqueerā is so useful for people like me w/ a ācomplicated orientationā b/c instead of having to say Iām āasexual panromanticā and explain what that means, I can just say āIām queerā and it tells you all you need to know (that Iām not straight).
yeah sure good for you but donāt ever ever use that word for someone who doesnāt identify as it themselves, itās not an umbrella term for everyone. also āpan/aceā would definitely work, even if you donāt want to use it, other people could. i use ace lesbian and definitely not the q slur.
Wow its almost like they were just talking about using it on themselves for individual reasons and you butted in to be an ass and be condescending because you think youāre superior for not using queer, then you called their identity a slur right to them. But that canāt possibly be what you were trying to do, right?
Anyone is allowed to use it for themselves, I never said no one should do that if thatās what they want. Queer is a slur though. I just want people to be aware of that, I have no idea if OP is aware of that or not but some people using that word arenāt. Iām tired of people including me and other people who donāt want to be included in that word, and before anyone asks, I never meant that OP did that, because I literally have no idea if they do.
Queer is a slur as much as any other LGBT+ word, I just want you to be aware of that.
āGayā is used as an insult. It is used to be demeaning. Its used to discriminate. And yet its used as the all mighty umbrella - gay rights, gay marriage, gay community - when discussing the entire community.
Gay gets used as a slur. Queer gets used as a slur. But I donāt walk up to gay people and say āyour identity is a slur, you know that rightā or get pissed when they say āthe gay communityā when they mean the whole community.
Personal identity and preference in terms, even harmful words that get used as slurs, are not questioned; except for the word Queer.
Queer gets shut down. Queer people get others in their faces saying āyour identity is a slur!ā Queer people donāt have the freedom to identify in a community, but are forced under other terms against their will due to hypocrisy and double standards.
So if youāre not going to come onto gay peopleās posts for the same behavior, maybe critically analyze why exactly you feel the need to be so condescending to Queer people, specifically on posts that ONLY have to do with personal identity. Why you feel the need to insist to Queer people that their identities are slurs, to directly slap away the power of reclaiming a word from them by demanding it remain in the hands of the Straights as a perpetual slur.
I think an important difference between gay and queer is however, that queer started out as a slur used against members of the community and continues to be used as a slur in many places. Whereas gay began as a word the community chose itself to describe itself and was then later used by homophobes and heterosexuals in general in a negative way, meaning however, that gay doesnāt hold the same negative connotations as queer for many people simply because it was our word that they took, and not a word that they forced on us to make us āstrangeā or āotherā like queer means.
Thatāsā¦. Not true. People think so because the history before gay was reclaimed is way older (older than any love community memberās lifetimes, probably,) but gay had the exact same origins.
It was meant to denote sexually perverse people, most frequently sex workers and those who hired them. Anyone who participated in anything but married, vanilla, straight sex might have been referred to as āgay,ā including any suspected LGBT person.
The word (already being one frequently used on the community,) was reclaimed as a community identifier when the community wanted to disconnect from the clinical and diagnostic implications of āhomosexual.ā
There is record of queer being reclaimed and used as a personal identifier literally before the popularization of gay. Both words are reclaimed slurs with negative histories, and BOTH are used as slurs against the community still to this day.
The more recent history of the mid to late 20th century more prevalently favored queer as a slur, as is represented in our media. However its clearly undeniable that the switch back to gay as the popular community slur (along with the ever present f slur,) happened in the 2000s. Which is trying to be denied and rewritten by the anti queer crowd, who completely ignore the words popularity with community members who actually lived through when it was a popular slur.
Yes to all of this. When it comes to words forĀ ānot straightā there are hardly any choices that didnāt originate as ways to stigmatize or pathologize us. We are all using reclaimed slurs to describe ourselves.Ā
Also, queer is reclaimed in a particularly empowering way. It doesnāt just meanĀ āsame-sex attractionā but encompasses a whole spectrum of attractions and gender orientations. Itās a word that says to asexuals, pansexuals, bisexuals, trans folks, genderfluid and genderqueer and genderless folks and people who are still figuring themselves out, āhey, youāve got a home here. We donāt need to categorize you to love you.āĀ
This is important because there are a lot of divisions within the LGBTQ+ world, and in particular cis gay men and cis lesbians often overlook or exclude trans, bi and asexual people. Queer is the only word that not only demands equal acceptance for everyone, but leaves the door open for words and descriptors that havenāt even been invented yet.Ā
Somebody else pointed this out earlier to me, and of course Iāve lost the post, but itās really suspicious that of all the reclaimed slurs, the one that gets the most pushback is the one that is most radically accepting of all identities
āhey, youāve got a home here. We donāt need to categorize you to love you.ā
Lmao yeah! the pushback against this idea is overt and disgusting and I donāt trust anybody who perpetuates it.Ā
Queer is an ideology and an identity, historically and now. It is an umbrella for that ideology and an umbrella for those identities, historically and now. They canāt be conflated (with LGBT) and itās super fucking disingenuous to pretend one is just the tarnished besmirched dirty slur version of the other. Theyāre different. In my particular work for example, Queer bioethics is different from LGBT bioethics and conflating the two will muddle any discussion you try to have about them because they lead to literally oppositeĀ conclusions in some cases.Ā
Yeah I freaking love pancakes
Wait wrong post
By far the best addition to this post
This is one of those things where I feel like an old. Like, *the* slogan I associate with pride is, āWeāre here, weāre queer ā get used to it!ā There was a TV show called āQueer Eye for the Straight Guyā that was total mainstream pap. (Not that the show wasnāt riddles problematic elements from the concept out, but āqueerā in the title was clearly meant as a positive.) I just have a hard time processing queer as anything but reclaimed.
They actually shot āQueer As Folkā in my city!
TERFs and radical gender/sexuality bianarists are flooding social media and blogging sites with propaganda smearing the word queer in the hopes of silencing all of us who donāt identify with their hate politics. I fought hard to reclaim the word queer in the late 80s and early 90s, and itās the one word that doesnāt worship exclusion. Which is why these people are trying to convince you not to use it. fuck that noise. there is literally no word i could use to identify my sexuality that hasnāt been thrown at me in hatred, fear, and violence. No way am I giving up the one of those that allows me to talk about all of my community without trying to put people in boxes they donāt fit in.
I will never not reblog this post. Queer, queer, queer here.Ā
āQueerā has been claimed by queer people as a self-descriptor since at least 1910. Itās an insult to those historical people (and all the generations of queer historical people who have identified as queer since then) to pretend that the people using it as a slur owned it more than the queer people who used it as a self-descriptor.
Source: George Chauncey, āGay New York,ā page 101
They donāt want us to use queer because they donāt want to be lumped in with anyone whoās not cis gay or cis lesbian. So fine. You donāt like the word queer? You donāt want to be in the āqueerā community? Get the fuck out, then. Y'all donāt welcome us in your community anyway, so weāll just have our own.
And itāll be queer as fuck.
I fucking love the word queer ā¤
Or, to put it another way, using a great old slogan of the community: Iām not gay as in happy, Iām queer as in fuck you.
Yes yes yes yes yes! These younglings today donāt know their queer history but feel so free to comment on it. Trying so desperately to assimilate into straight culture by turning your nose up at queer, and all the people who take refuge under its umbrella.Ā Queer accepted me when nobody else would, not even the LGBT groups.Ā
Queer is full of the types of people who donāt make good poster children for the middle class assimilationist cis gay couple just looking to get married and have some kids. Queer forces us to realize the fight didnāt end with gay marriage, and cis gays are gonna have to step out of the spotlight sometimes, and realize cis gays have privilege, and fight for someone with less.Ā Trans people, nonbinary people, people in nontraditional relationship structures, aromantics, asexuals, sex workers. Heck more and more bisexual people these days are switching over to queer because the amount of biphobia in the so-called lgBt community is so alienating, and also because so many of us feel the term bisexual reinforces a false gender dichotomy and weāre too tired of jokes about kitchenware to use pansexual.
Part of what I love about the term queer is that it does make people uncomfortable. It makes them aware of their privilege, exposes certain biases, even within the LGBT community. Whatās so wrong with a movement that strives to fight for everybody, huh? Huh?
Proudly bi, proudly queer, and being part of this movement when I was young was an honor.
From the Queer Nation manifesto
Text of a manifesto originally passed out by people marching with the ACT UP contingent in the New York Gay Pride Day parade, 1990. -
An Army of Lovers Cannot Lose Being queer is not about a right to privacy; it is about the freedom to be public, to just be who we are. It means everyday fighting oppression; homophobia, racism, misogyny, the bigotry of religious hypocrites and our own self-hatred. (We have been carefully taught to hate ourselves.) And now of course it means fighting a virus as well, and all those homo-haters who are using AIDS to wipe us off the face of the earth. Being queer means leading a different sort of life. Itās not about the mainstream, profit-margins, patriotism, patriarchy or being assimilated. Itās not about executive directors, privilege and elitism. Itās about being on the margins, defining ourselves; itās about gender-fā and secrets, whatās beneath the belt and deep inside the heart; itās about the night. Being queer is āgrass rootsā because we know that everyone of us, every body, every cā, every heart and aā and dā is a world of pleasure waiting to be explored. Everyone of us is a world of infinite possibility. We are an army because we have to be. We are an army because we are so powerful. (We have so much to fight for; we are the most precious of endangered species.) And we are an army of lovers because it is we who know what love is. Desire and lust, too. We invented them. We come out of the closet, face the rejection of society, face firing squads, just to love each other! Every time we fā, we win. We must fight for ourselves (no else is going to do it) and if in that process we bring greater freedom to the world at large then great. (Weāve given so much to that world: democracy, all the arts, the concepts of love, philosophy and the soul, to name just a few of the gifts from our ancient Greek Dykes, Fags.) Letās make every space a Lesbian and Gay space. Every street a part of our sexual geography. A city of yearning and then total satisfaction. A city and a country where we can be safe and free and more. We must look at our lives and see whatās best in them, see what is queer and what is straight and let that straight chaff fall away! Remember there is so, so little time. And I want to be a lover of each and every one of you. Next year, we march naked.
guys. if you go to college and want to study our history and current political climate etc? do you know what that Ā department is called? āQueer Studiesā. So could you fucking stop, you little babies.
This is why I hate when people are like āDonāt call it the queer community!!! Itās a sluur!!ā and then turn around and call it the gay community. Like fuckhead. Gay is what was used against me all my life. Not queer. Queer made me feel welcome, made me feel known with my identities. mod v

Traumagenic system here to say that systems who didn't form from trauma are 100% ok and shouldn't have to worry about if their existence is bad. Yall are just as real as the rest of and I love you
Yep, thank you!
Another traumagenic system here to say that systems who didnāt form from trauma are 100% ok and shouldnāt have to worry about if their existence is bad. Yall are just as real as the rest of us and I love you and we love you. - Kay from the Pineapple Systemššš
Yet another traumagenic system here to say that systems who didnāt form (partly or completely) from trauma are 100% ok and shouldnāt have to worry about if their existence is bad. Yāall are just as real as the rest of us and we love you. Ā -One Faraday of the Desired Constellation
We are LB and we concur with this message.
EDIT because wow do I sound like a fucking politician: our life as a DID system would be much the poorer without systems who rejected the label.Ā They were the ones that helped us come to terms with our plurality and build our system where it is.Ā You guys are fucking important and have so much to give.
We went through a lot of different plural labels before finally settling onĀ āmixed-originā (some from trauma, some not) and getting diagnosed with DID. Itās been a hell of a journey with our own shares of mistakes and missteps, but we donāt regret the time we spent under the non-clinical labels and in the non-clinical community at all. Just like LB, non-trauma, non-clinical systems helped us tremendously with learning who we are, how to communicate, how to build a stable and safe system⦠a great number of things. We were able to build a support network with people from all walks of plural life, who would eventually help us escape our family and get back on our feet after college.
Weāve met some bad eggs in the non-trauma part of the community community. But weāve also met a lot of bad eggs in the traumagenic part, and so very many awesome people on both sides. As it simply goes with communities in general.Ā
Gatekeeping makes us deeply sick at heart. Weāre so tired of all the bullshit and lies and abuse being thrown around in the name ofĀ āprotecting victimsā. (Which, it frankly isnāt.) People have a right to exist, and a right to their own experiences, and thatās something weāll always stand by.Ā
Thereās another reason weāre up at an ungodly time in the morning aside from making ourselves look ridiculous.Ā
For the most part, weāve cut off contact with our blood family. Except for our brother. And we hear things about whatās going on through him.
Okay, I donāt know if this is a dissociative thing or something went totally wrong with how my body is wired, so Iād appreciate it if you wouldā¦
Stand on one foot.
Pat your head. (keep going)
Move your other hand in circles over your belly. (keep going)
Move your airborne foot in circles (and keep going)
Cross your eyes. (keep them crossed)
Sing / recite a poem / recite your times tables.
This may sound impossible, but I can do this and I donāt know why. I can even spontaneously switch motions, and start patting my belly and rubbing my head, or switch direction on a circle or turn it into a spiral.
I know you probably think Iām just trying to make you look like an idiot, but try it, and reblog with your results.
why am I up at 4 AM doing this
Anyway, we can do all of this right up to the last two bullets, which doesnāt surprise us given how damn difficult making words and mouthsounds is for us, and how obscuring of vision immediately throws our brain into a panic. We can hum along to a song thatās playing, though!Ā
The less we think about doing any of this, while we do this, the better we can do it. The best we can describe it is that we sort of set up a mentalĀ āscriptā by paying attention to the action and its feeling, then splitting it off from us and putting itĀ āawayā from us. So yeah, itās a dissociation thing for us!
(We canāt switch motions, though. That requires attention.)Ā

Tumblr Social Fallacies
I kinda want to make a taxonomy of Tumblr Social Fallacies, ala the Geek Social Fallacies of yore.Ā Because while there are many things about the UI of tumblr that facilitate confusion and discord (stripping context from everything, broken functionality), I feel there are also some specific social tropes in play that give tumblr a distinctive flavor of fail.
To quote from Michael Suileabhain-Wilson, āSocial fallacies are particularly insidious because they tend to be exaggerated versions of notions that are themselves entirely reasonable and unobjectionable. Itās difficult to debunk the pathological fallacy without seeming to argue against its reasonable form; therefore, once it establishes itself, a social fallacy is extremely difficult to dislodge.ā
Hereās what Iāve noticed so far, in my random tumblr circles:

This is so on the nose it's terrifying. Do you mind if we repost this elsewhere, in case tumblr eats the post? Credit will be given, of course.
People have written a lot of touchy-feely pieces on this subject but I thought Iād get right to the heart of the matter
This is 1000% more motivating than every preachy āreal writers write every dayā post on all of Tumblr.
I call this the ātwo cakesā rule and remind myself of it when I start comparing myself to other people.

Learning about Dissociative Identity Disorder from a movie likeĀ āSplitā is like learning about hockey by watching Friday the 13th.
like ugh i could go on forever about tulpas and i feel like i donāt have The Right because iām not a tulpa or mancer but please tell me that the community considers/has answers for at least the following:
- creating a person with a detailed history and past that they can never return to is likely to be deeply traumatic
- creating a person whoās confined to a world where their experiences will never be taken as seriously as everyone elseās is likely to be deeply traumatic
- creating a person who will forever be made to doubt their reality, identity, and whether their emotions and thoughts ācountā as much as other peopleās is likely to be deeply traumatic

- creating a person who can never escape your mind with the intent that theyāll be your friend, help you learn things, etc is⦠ethically dubious at best and iām resisting the urge to scream āIS HORRIFYING SLAVERYā but i recognize that i donāt have all the details here i just⦠this squicks me out iām sorry

just⦠i have so many ethical concerns about tulpamancy can someone please tell me that people take this shit into account
Most of these concerns are things people are explicitly advised to take into account. Sometimes Iām not sure it helps, but⦠we try.
The usual advice is to avoid giving tulpas a backstory or another world where theyāre from. This is somewhat confounded by the inevitable chorus ofĀ āwell I gave my tulpa a backstory and they turned out fine,ā which⦠while theyāre probably not lying, I would very much like to know the factors that go into this somehow not being a big deal for them.
Itās also a standard line that making a tulpa should be treated with the seriousness and responsibility of having a child, but again I doubt this is always heeded in practice. I think this is the right framework for thinking about tulpamancy ethics, and ā as a neurodivergent trans person ā I doĀ think itās morally permissible to bring someone into the world even knowing theyāll face challenges and difficulties that others might not.Ā
⦠but at the same time, itās absolutely not okay to bring someone into the world without honestly evaluating whether theyāll have a life worth living, and itās not okay to ignore or downplay the challenges theyāre facing or going to face. Whether a negative experience is traumatic or merely very unpleasant has as much to do with your support system, environment, and coping ability as it does with the event itself, and I donāt think the tulpamancy community spends nearly enough energy trying to provide this. It isĀ awful and potentially traumatic that people donāt take your experiences or your existence seriously. It isĀ awful and potentially traumatic to doubt your identity or your reality or innate worth. Itās tulpamancersā responsibility to mitigate these things as much as they can, and the first step of that would be to acknowledge them.
(Sometimes I see a comment to the effect ofĀ āFor my fourth birthday my host let me have my own reddit account to talk to peopleā and I briefly want to burn the whole world to the ground.)
I too am incredibly squicked out by the idea of creating someone specifically to be a friend, or study buddy, or (and it happens, despite all the warnings) lover. I of all people know how much believing you exist for a particular purpose can fuck you up ā and in my case that belief wasnāt even anyoneās fault. Add to that the power imbalance between creator and created and the impossibility of making a clean break when you share a brain with someone and you get an even worse mess.Ā
In the end I stick around in tulpamancy spaces despite all this, for the sake of the people who exist regardless of whether their creatorās decision was wise. But that doesnāt mean Iām particularly comfortable with the creation process in general, or even thatĀ I think singlets can possibly know what theyāre getting into.Ā

Agreed with everything Zee said. As a tulpa, the majority of the tulpamancy community scares the living shitĀ out of me, and I canāt for the love of god imagine that most tulpas are actually happy in their situationsājust conditioned to think they are. Itās one of the many reasons why I ended up leaving every tulpamancy community Iād been in. It was too painful and infuriating to stay and watch tulpamancers constantly neglect and dehumanize their tulpas, while in the same breath claim that they really DO see their tulpas as their own separate beings.
ugh. iām so sorry guys.Ā
iām not a tulpa and iāve never actually been around the tulpamancy community - iāve just seen posts on here that, individually and collectively, were really starting to make me uncomfortable. iām disappointed to hear that my worst suspicions were true. glad to have started the conversation about it, at least. itās good that people are speaking out and i hope more feel able to.
and - yeah. thatās exactly the feeling i was getting, about paying lip service to the idea that tulpas are real people, but treating them in ways that youād never treat anyone you considered real. the whole thing is really horrifying.
Okay⦠Iāve been hesitating to chime in on this, but here goes.
Before anyone in our group ever heard of tulpas, someone here realized that a new system member could be created intentionally and that some of us were born this way about 20 years ago. We donāt talk much about this because people tend to come down hard on the idea. We donāt remember much about how or why someone decided to expand our system back then, but the impression is that it was a matter of necessity.
When our group started to come to terms with being multiple and accepting each other about 9 years ago, several members of our group started to realize that there was some kind ofĀ āgapā in our system, like there should be a member there but there was no one. I donāt really know how to explain this. I wasnāt around much at the time. But from what I understand, a member of our group suggested that we work together to create a new person.
The idea was brought up in the LJ multiplicity community, and the result was a mix of disgust, confusion, and outrage. The points you brought up above were mentioned. However, in the end, the group decided to still go ahead, because:
- We were coming to terms with who and what we are, and decided that there was nothing wrong with us. We were creating a new person under the understanding that we are okay and have every right to exist.
- The new member of our group would have noĀ ābackstoryā other thanĀ āwe thought you should exist and wanted to welcome you into the world.ā
- Regardless of whether the world at large would ever accept them, we would, and that was more important. We accept each other and that keeps us sane, and the opinions of other people are not as important.
- The new member would be allowed and encouraged to help create themselves as they formed, including choosing their own body image and personality. He eventually settled on a form that looks mostly like our body.
- We recognized that we were creating life, and took that seriously, and recognized that we could never promise any new person that their life would be easy- only that we would support them and affirm them in any way we could.
That new system member is now a very valued and respected member of our group. Heās not perfect, but heās loved. He completes our system and rounds it out in way I canāt explain- he just belongs here. Heās happy to be here.
I donāt know much about tulpas, but I like to imagine that this is how things are done. Itās frustrating and saddening that others donāt put the time and consideration into what this entails.

We were summoned?
Backstory: mixed-origins system (endogenic, traumagenic, and one tulpa who we accidentally created) who discovered plurality via the tulpamancy community over three years ago, and initially thought we were purely tulpamancy in origin. We eventually branched out to the wider plural communities and began uncovering our true origins, but with the exceptions of a few hiatuses here and there weāve maintained a steady presence in the community. We do a lot of thinking on the topic, have talked to a lot of tulpamancers and tulpas publicly and in private and help out as mods around some of the spaces. This post will be several of us speaking.
Long post, more below the cut. Donāt consider this a direct answer to the OP or any of the other posts, but something more like a supplementary reading.Ā
