as a medical school student, I have been subjected to purposefully stressful or exhausting training, especially during first two years, in order to "get me used to working under pressure" and elimate those who weren't able to cope with it, it's a common practice. since my country has an infamously small number of doctors, medical training here can begin rather early - right after high school (although a lot of students are 1-5 years older than that), which is how I'm 23 in 5th year, meaning the individuals in 1st year who are subjected to "desensitisation" are often 18-21 year olds (18-19 in my case). I can confirm it definitely does kill our empathy because "if we could sleep 4-5h normally for weeks (...)". this person has a point, I wish it was discussed more
