Play Collection

By taking my notion of play and playfulness, I wanted to play on the idea of moments in my life and push that in an artistic direction. I wanted to create posters that defined the memories in a more playful way that could be felt the same way but interpreted differently by the person viewing it.This is playfulness to me as this idea pushed me to play on my memories which then lead me to create a collection that depicted how I felt within an important time of my life with someone special to me. I call it “Her.” My process was to take those moments and collate them into a series of artwork through photoshop. By doing this i am able to then take the end product and look at the pieces to reminisce back to the time i spent with her.

Although, art can be interpreted in many ways, I know what i see with the collection but others are likely to interpret it differently or possibly relate it to a moment in there lives. By getting people to play on this idea and think further from what they see was the objective of this project.

Instrument building....

At the very beginning of this project I was fearful of the idea of ‘making my own instrument’, because of my lack of musical talent - and also the fact that we have to actually play it in front of people! I had no idea what I would make or how I would even make it. 

Coming up with an idea was such a challenge but I wanted to make something that incorporated strings, I was inspired by guitars, so I decided to do some research and play around with different types of ‘string’ at different lengths to see how this affected the frequency of the sound. I knew that by changing the lengths of string because of v = fλ. So really it was just deciding on which noises I liked the most.

After completing a few tests and drawing up some sort of ‘designs’ for my instruments I was ready to try and build something physical. With my budget being $0 I had to scavenge all the materials I could find. I found old pieces of scrap wood that looked really cool and rustic, so I began sanding down the splintery edges and marking out where the strings would go and how long each individual string was going to be.
