height differences aren’t that great
yaku/lev kind of based on this post
There have to be easier ways of doing this, Lev thinks as Yaku pulls him down by his collar. Yaku’s head is tilted back, face upturned to meet Lev’s, and he might be on his toes because Lev thinks he seems a little taller than usual. It’s not that he doesn’t like kissing Yaku. He loves kissing him. He wouldn’t mind doing it more. But still he can’t help but think, as his neck starts to ache, there has to be an easier way to do this.
It comes to him suddenly and Lev marvels at his genius. It’s a pain to go to Yaku, but what if he brought Yaku to him? It would be so much simpler, if Yaku’s face was level with his. Which is why, the next time he sees his boyfriend, he slots his hands under his elbows and hauls him up.
But instead of Yaku’s lips, Lev’s face meets Yaku’s elbow.
It’s a good thing Yaku has such good reflexes, because that means he lands on his feet rather than his ass when Lev drops him to press a hand to his face to check for blood.
"Oops," Yaku says. "Sorry."
He doesn’t sound sorry at all, Lev thinks, as he watches Yaku walk off to class.
Lev gets payback before practice, completely unintentionally.
They’re walking from the locker room to the gym, when Yaku pauses to re-tie his shoe. By the time Lev notices and starts to turn back to wait for him, Yaku has already stood and started walking again.
His face collides with Lev’s elbow.
"I’m sorry," he says as Yaku tries to staunch the bleeding with his shirt.
He decides it would be better if he gave Yaku warning before hoisting him up.
"I’m going to pick you up," he announces an hour later while they’re taking a break from practicing.
"Do it, and you’ll be sorry."
Lev bends down and wraps his arms around Yaku anyway. He’s straightening when Yaku’s leg shoots out, shin colliding with pelvis.
He drops Yaku and drops to the ground with a shout that turns into a moan. Dimly, he’s aware of Kuroo coming up and asking what happened.
"I’m sorry," he says anyway
Yaku apologizes after practice, when they’re alone in the locker room.
"Sorry about earlier." He’s staring down at the bench like it holds all the secrets to the universe. "I don’t like it when people grab me like that."
"I noticed," Lev says sourly, shoving his knee pads in his bag. Even ignoring the fact that he’d been elbowed in the face and then kneed in the crotch, practice had been bad and he’d spent most of it getting yelled at by Kuroo.
Lev doesn’t want to, doesn’t want to get yelled at for his bad receives or awful blocks or for just trying to kiss his boyfriend, but he does anyway because there aren’t very many ways today could get much worse.
"What?" he asks, and hates himself for sounding like a petulant child.
Instead of answering him immediately, Yaku climbs onto the bench. Lev drags his gaze up. Yaku’s looking down at Lev, a strange look on his face.
He wraps his arms around Lev’s shoulders and rests his chin on the top of his head.
"I’m sorry," he says, dropping a kiss on the crown of Lev’s head. "I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have done that."
It’s not your fault I’m a bad boyfriend, Lev thinks. He doesn’t realize he’s said it out loud until Yaku clicks his tongue.
"You’re not a bad boyfriend. I’m the one that kicked you."
"I elbowed you in the face."
"And I put you on the floor. So let’s call it even."
Lev lets out a frustrated huff against Yaku’s chest.
"Hey." Yaku pulls back to take Lev’s face in his hands. "What’s really bothering you?"
"I just wanted to kiss you."
Yaku’s lips twitch. “Yeah?”
"But you’re so—I’m too tall."
And it’s true. He’s never hated his height before, always enjoyed towering over his peers. But after weeks of dating Yaku he’s starting to get sick of the production that kissing his boyfriend involves.
"Really?" Yaku doesn’t seem to understand his frustration. He keeps looking down at Lev with amusement, as if he knows some sort of joke Lev doesn’t. "You don’t seem very tall to me right now."
Lev glares up at him. “Of course I’m tall. Look at me!”
"I am." Yaku’s smiling down at—wait.
He’s looking up at Yaku and Yaku’s smiling down at him.
"Oh," he breathes as the realization hits him..
"Yeah," Yaku says, before lowering his lips the few centimeters required for them to kiss.
This, Lev thinks, is so much better.
