My hot take is that if a person seems to have been "turned trans" by something like media, it was likely they would have figured out they were going to end up identifying as trans anyway - that thing just kickstarted the realization. It isn't that things like people or media "force people" into being trans or identifying as trans, but that real life presented opportunities for that person to go, "oh that's the word for how I've been feeling!"

chanting "sex work is work" isn't going to magically erase the harm and trauma women come out of that industry with. it does not erase how used and manipulated so many of these women are. it does not erase how many dangerous situations these women are put in almost daily. it does not erase the fact these women are often trapped.

if you keep screaming "sex work is work" for the sake of being woke, you're not going to hear the voices of actual sex workers and you're not going to hear their stories. no one is shaming them, no one is excluding them. we are criticizing the sex work industry.

many women of lower classes or marginalized groups wind up in these vulnerable situations more than others. at the very least be concerned about their well-being and advocate for their safety, rights, and opportunities instead of chanting that phrase over and over.

it's not that hard to understand. if you go throwing "swerf" around for the love of all things, please think about why we are concerned for sex workers and want to dismantle sex work as a whole.
