I know some people joke about ‘going ghost’ and living in some house in the woods,and not having electronics. But now I see the true freedom in that. I know just how much social media can bring someone down. It can distract them from who they really are, their inner thoughts, it can influence someone badly, it can hurt relationships, it can destroy confidence, it can do a lot of stuff. 

It’s not just social media, either. It’s influence from all walks of life. Not saying that I run around a bad crowd, but having people around in that sense ties me down. It ties me down to the past and not the future.

I’ve met some great people here and they will continue to be great even when we don’t talk. And it might be nice to think about them, but just like friends from back in the day, it shouldn’t be 10 years from now and I still see you posting about your dog, and your kids, and we never talk. It’s not a bad thing, of course, to live that life (if it doesn’t bother you) but I don’t like it. I don’t want to live tied by the past. I want to live in the current.

I love the idea of having pen pals, and keeping up with someone via letters. Something old fashioned, so to speak. I don’t mind keeping up, but it shouldn’t be forced by someone posting photos, it should come from a genuine care for someone, an urgency to keep up with them, not just when you need them, or you want to be social.

And like I said, this is not a post to drag, or change someones opinion, or to put someone down. It’s perfectly fine if you’re that way and you don’t have to change! But when you’re that way and you’re unhappy about it like I am, you do have to change it. And I believe this is the right way for me. So, as I have said, if I disappear, that’s why.

Reddit has a number of communities dedicated to helping people out financially. Although I’m not personally familiar with the site and how these subreddits function, the success rate seems to be higher on there than it is on tumblr.
