Bonobos are found only in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, south of the Congo River, making them one of the rarest great apes.

They survive in dense rainforests by eating mostly fruit, leaves, seeds, insects, and small animals, while using strong social bonds and female-led groups to reduce conflict.

Their exact wild number is uncertain, but estimates suggest only about 10,000–20,000 remain, and they are endangered because of hunting, habitat loss, and forest fragmentation.

Banded hare-wallaby is a rare Australian marsupial now naturally found only on Bernier and Dorre Islands in Shark Bay, Western Australia.

It survives by hiding in dense shrubs during the day and feeding at night on grasses, leaves, and plants. Only about 2,000 to 9,000 mature individuals are estimated to remain.

Asian palm civet is a nocturnal tree climber found across South and Southeast Asia. It uses its sharp claws, long tail, and excellent night vision to move through forests in search of fruits, insects, and small animals.

Though often seen alone, young civets stay close to their mother while learning how to climb, find food, and survive in the dense tropical forest.

Did you know? Fireflies aren’t flies at all: they're beetles! Of all of the insects in the world, fireflies are among the few to have evolved an extraordinary language of light. Many fireflies use a system of flashes in some of the same ways we use words: to attract, to say, “Here I am,” even to deceive. They emit light from a tiny organ, called a lantern, on the underside of their abdomen, where a biochemical reaction takes place within specialized cells called photocytes. The reaction releases energy in the form of light.
