It’s been less than 24 hours since I launched myself into freelance. I wanted to come on and write down some of the things I have learned from everyone in the community helping me out as well as what I have read online.

Firstly do not sell yourself short! So many of you said I made my prices to low. Make your prices fair, but remember you still want to making a good profit on your art. Second, the first few weeks can be slow and don’t let it be misleading for you. Take this time to practice and increase your skills. Keep making awesome art! You want to make people say “damn” when they see your work.

So some 6 or so years ago I was messing around with RPG Maker and I started making some pixel art icons for it. I lost interest in the game I was making but I still wanted to share the art, so I made a complete set and put it online for other people to use for free

It became the most popular thing in my DeviantArt page and I started getting people asking me to make some for them

Back then I never thought what I made was good enough for freelancing. But all I had to do was show that I could do game assets, and then people in need of game assets would see my stuff and consider me as an option

And don’t just wait around, go after game dev and art forums and websites and actively look for people in need of art!

It’s recommended to set up a portfolio page you can send to people. I used carbonmade, which is free
