I really don't understand the number of authors that are like, "oh I am dying of embarrassment that my family read the sexually explicit scenes I put in my book."

Then, like, why did you put them in there? What feeling do you have about strangers reading it? People coming up to you and knowing they read it and think about it?

I realized I have such a strong reaction to some content in books, particularly spice, but not exclusively, because I guard my imagination.

That is how I see and understand the world and how I view sex hits straight at my marriage.

I will not compromise on what I read. I don't care how popular it is.

It feels like people understand on some level that it shapes how you see the world, but a lot of people don't realize the trash that has already warped their view of the world.

I see people who discuss how terrible their relationships are, how depraved the books they read are, and then call me foolish for not following.

Nope. I am good with my peaceful, happy marriage and romance stories that point me back to Christ.

I feel like when people say "it isn't hurting anyone", they are almost without exception referencing something that is hurting people.

Romance readers that read spice, promote and market books using the spicy content, will also complain that people equate all romance with smut.

Well, when you present it that way, what do you know, that is how it's perceived.

My sil does this and it drives me nuts. "It's just a little heat." Then markets almost entirely with the spicy scenes.

Anyone know how to get the smell of vomit out of a couch?

The whole culture around normalizing and recommending these books is wild to me.
