If a game can be wholly experienced with a full-on tourist mode, then it really has no reason to be made as a video game at all.

why do the people that get paid to play video games hate video games so much 

Yeah, as a disabled person I really don’t see what tourist mode would take away from other players. Does it really bother you that people without as much skill can also enjoy a game? Personally, I have a lot of difficulty with some sequences. I really don’t see a downside here.

even as a generally skilled, “Hella Hard difficulties are my comfort zone” type of player, a tourist mode would be very fun in that “goofing off” type of way. what if I want to explore some stuff beyond pools of lava, what if I want to dive into the deepest depths and explore the waters without worrying about my breath count or if I just wanna check out the models of the enemies or just pretend to be a ghost in the universe and go literally wherever I please. This type of mode obviously wouldn’t work for every type of game, but for those that can theoretically implement it, I really don’t see how this takes anything away from the game.

Also, who wants to bet the shitbabies whining about this are the same people who skip cutscenes. THEY aren’t partaking in part of the game, too, yet that is okay somehow, while a tourist mode is not? Bullshit.

I love playing games and I’m actually a decent gamer but I also love exploring a beautifully designed environmet. It would be fun to be able to go back into some places and see them without interruption.

The games my company makes (Beamdog, we do Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, BGII: Enhanced Edition, and just released Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition) have a “story mode” that is basically this. We got a lot of hate over it, and I don’t understand it at all. Enjoy games however you like to enjoy games.

Also…am I the only one who just wants to explore a world? Video games can be works of art, and I want to enjoy that. It would be amazing to be able to discover and appreciate the environment that the designers created. I would love to be able to see vast and detailed forests and the depths of oceans and ruined temples and castles at my own pace, instead of having to worry about getting jumped by monsters or the area being closed off after I accomplish a quest (i.e., am strong enough to survive the monsters). For me, Exploration Mode would be a dream. 

A toggle-able tourist mode like this would give game designers food for thought "why were the enemies in this room placed this way" kinda deal
