A girl in a boy's world.
Being the only girl at FNM last night was kind of strange. Don’t get me wrong – it was hella fun!! But the guys there seemed at first to vastly underestimate me.
It was my first time standard drafting. I pulled terribly and ended up playing Izzet Aggro. I was kind of disappointed tbh – I really wanted to take some of those guys down. I ended up going 2-3 and winning one of the random giveaway packs. Most of the people I played were impressed that I knew any of the terms or keywords or won at all.
I’m kind of glad that I’d only gone with a friend, though. Everyone there just assumed he was my boyfriend or husband or family in some way. That really bothers me about the Magic community sometimes. Girls can’t just go and play without having everyone assume they’re involved with someone else there. THAT needs to change. Girls need to be seen as equal competitors that can come and play and win and have knowledge about the game, too. Seriously.
It's because, sadly, a lot of the people that play magic have a childish mentality of "no girls allowed" and when they see a female playing 'their' game, they get really condescending. I'll admit, I've caught myself doing it before and it made me feel like a fucktard. Like, why would I treat this person any different, just because her tits are nicer than the sweaty guy next to me?
(Sorry, still a guy that appreciates tits)
It's fucked up how males become so childish about something so fun and interactive as magic and I'm sorry to all the ladies that get treated this way by little boys that can't control their peepee.
