SP's "Golden State" GS-locos and other 4-8-4's

"Coastal Grandeur"

Southern Pacific GS-4 No. 4449 leads train No. 98, the Southbound Coast Daylight, towards Los Angeles while the passengers catch a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean.

Stenner Creek Trestle near San Luis Obispo: Southern Pacific Daylight 4-8-4 4449, with SP SD40E 7342 as a helper, works up Cuesta Grade. This train, dubbed the World's Fair Daylight, is returning to Portland, Oregon. Context Craig Walker. SP 4449 heads north from San Luis Obispo with a helper to Santa Margarita, looking very much like the original Train 99 Coast Daylight except with an SD40E for a helper rather than a 2-10-2. Here's my take on a drawing of Southern Pacific GS-4 No. 4449 as well as my first Southern Pacific drawing in a while.

Two little cousins: 4-8-4 SP 4449 Daylight chills with her Lima Locomotive works relatives for a family reunion of sorts: 2-8-4 NKP 1225 from the New York, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad -- aka the Nickel Plate Road. Lima 2-8-4 Pere Marquette Railway 1225. The get together was a little steamy with late nights spent around the turntable hosted by the sisters, little 0-4-0 tank engine Little River 1 and her grown up sister, Little River 110 -- a 4-6-2 with a tender behind -- 1 invited a couple of her friends too, other 0-4-0 tank engines Flagg Coal 75 and Viscose 6.

They all enjoyed receiving loving rubs and attention. But 4449 wanted more attention, so, like a naughty engine, she stubbed her pilot truck on a turnout frog and made a big fuss. She enjoyed the extra attention while it lasted, but it meant that she wasn't allowed out to play with her cousins later.

I didn’t have much, but I did have a train in mind, and after looking up star names, I think I have the perfect name.

Draco Platoon, and their locomotive G4467, Glistening Daylight.

The Glistening Daylight is basically a slightly sci-fi version of the Southern Pacific GS-4 series locomotive, which famously includes the 4449, shown below. (Not my photo, just a pic I found online)

The platoon’s uniform would be in orange like the locomotive, with black dress pants. As for the crest, I might need to think up a design for it.

Gunzels, Gricers, Railfans, Foamers, Anoraks, Ferroequinologists, lend me your ears! For I come not to praise the past month, but to bury it and declare the month of Rail-pril!

I don’t have any prompts for Rail-pril, other than celebrating railbased transport, real or fictional.
