I keep checking things that teachers recommend I check on my car to figure out my weird intermittent boost issues and slight rich running condition, and every time it gets me nothing. Replaced the turbo bypass valve, no change. Smoke tested it, no leaks. Checked the throttle body, real clean in there. Please let me find an actual issue I can fix

Hmm ok, disconnected the boost pressure control valve from the wastegate, which should leave it to just go off of wastegate spring pressure aka base boost, which is 6 psi, or halfway into the yellow zone on the gauge. It went all the way up to the start of the red tho and felt peppier than with the BPC connected. Interesting.

Oh ok, had it set up wrong, but that was actually useful. So I know it can reach full boost no problem, and with the hose from the compressor straight to the wastegate, it does go off base boost correctly. So that control valve must be having some issues, best I can tell. Also my A/C compressor is the source of the bad whining at higher rpms, so that's cool. Glad it isn't the turbo or something, but if it's going out, that'll be pricey, and not something I can do at home :/

Actually it didn't hit base boost like I thought, so it's the wastegate actuator. Also my fuel trim and O2 sensor data suggests the car is running lean, but it has symptoms of running rich, so that's interesting.
