Butter went over the rainbow today. The vet was really nice, and idk if she was just being nice or she noticed how upset I was (I didn't cry til I left though thankfully) but she didn't even charge me full price.

I've been doing a lot of thinking about rat blog lately, but really I just don't have the drive or the energy. So I think I'll be saying goodbye to the blog, too. I miss Blue and now Butter, and Patches and Peanut. I hate ratty lifespans and the amount of illnesses they have. I hate how short my time is with them. Butter was almost two. I've never had a rat get to two years old.

Toshi will be two in May, along with Badger. Butter would've been at around the same time, along with Nera and Blue. I'm dreading May. I know I'll have to say goodbye one day but I just want that day to stay far, far, away.

The boys have mites. I've never had mites before and it's totally grotesque and it creeps me out. I've started medicating everyone with Revolution (Toshi and Gary are the only ones with sores, so they're on Baytril too) but 14 rats is a lot to medicate. I mean 13. 

The foster girls will go to their new home in the next few weeks. I'm lucky none of them have any mites, though I've dosed them too and will send some revolution along with them.

Pet community associations: Err, I guess I'm still in the rat community but not so much on Tumblr now, mainly just through the rehoming group I help out at.

My animals: ages are approximate~

Mice: Milo (1 year and three months) Ferrets: Patrick (2 years), Missy (1.5 years), Pudding (.5 years) Boy rats: Toshi (1 year 10 months), Junior (1 year 3 months), Gary, Remy & Splodge, (5-7 months?) Girl rats: Badger & Butter (1 year 10 months), Millie & Sable (no idea, guessed at about 1.5+ years), Tuesday (8-10 months?).

How did you get into keeping the type of animal your blog is focused on?: I guess a friend of mine was interested in them, and my dad had finally moved into a real house. I think it was sort of a bargaining chip to get me to stay with him. I'd always sat in the little petting zoo things at school fairs playing with their rats though, and I had mice as a little girl. Just those were the events that kickstarted it into actually happening.

What inspired you to start your blog: I was posting rat photos on my personal blog and I guess I wanted to keep things neat and separate? Also so my friends didn't have to see me bugging out about rats all the time.

Favorite animal or dream animal you’d like to one day keep?: Hmm, this one is tricky because I like the pets I have and they're perfect. I guess a rat that could clean it's own cage would be awesome. Also it could grow large enough to carry me around and maybe wings idk. But also tiny version so it could still sit on my shoulder.

How do you feel about the pet community you are a part of?: Not suuuuper great. The online community is fantastic, but I get a bit irked with my local community. I'm part of a buy/sell/swap page and it's so frustrating to see how many people turn up with 6 month old rats and say they "suddenly can't have them because they have to move out" or something. Just frustrating because I feel like people don't think it through when they get ANY pet. But I'm also cranky today. And I'll never forgive them for telling me to have Butter PTS because she nipped me by mistake one time & was aggressive with the other rats. I was asking for advice on desexing and whether that calmed girls down etc, and yeah they just flat out didn't answer me and ignored what I was saying. 

Anything you’d like to communicate to your pet community?: Stop breeding more rats then there are homes for. Also stop breeding for colour and ignoring health. Also don't tell someone to put down a beloved pet. Sure, suggest it if you really think that's the only option, but I'm sure people in the rat community already have enough people telling them all the ways they would murder their rats since rats are so disgusting.

Any interests outside of the pet community?: Dolls and figures, games and drawing, writing and tv, sewing and sleeping.

What do you do outside of tumblr?: I work at Apple, and today I started my second job (nannying) and in a few weeks I'll go back to uni.

Recent losses include Gandalf & Goldmember the mouse (he was a foster but I counted him as mine). Toshi and Badger (both will turn 2 in about May) are slowing down and getting very old and sleepy. I feel fairly miserable about that. I know they have short lifespans, but those two are just blah. Just the sweetest.

Remy has been very sick with resp. problems, but he's been on meds for a week and a half now and hasn't made any noises for the last half a week/week at least. He finishes his course in a few days and I'm very happy about his progress. Gary has started snuffling though, so I'll have to start on him now D:

Between work and money problems and exhaustion and forcing a huge change to my sleeping habits I haven't had much time for anything else, and the next six months are gonna be similar as I'll be doing 2 classes at uni as well as working 2 jobs. Well, I'll see how I go. 

I have the "day off" today (meaning I don't have to leave the house for anything) so I'm going to make a bunch of hammocks as my guys have eaten every last one, then I'm going to work on drawing my Christmas gifts (including my ratty Kris Kringle one!). Hopefully it will be relaxing and I can do it whilst watching TV or listening to music or something!

She's been sick a long time, I suspect with the same internal tumors her brother had because it was all the same symptoms. But she held on so well and was still having good days, so I was putting off taking her to the vet to be PTS. 

At least it was expected. Whisper was healthy Friday, odd Saturday, and dead Sunday. Blaaaah just lame, I raised Peanut from birth so it feels really sucky.
