Well at least Takaya-sensei admits to the pyschological war crimes she commited on so many of us when we were but mere teens looking forward to a fun, meaningless time at the beach...

So, I finally got around to reading the new Mabudachi Trio Arc Season 2, Chapter 1, and it is fabulous.
We have Ayame basically narrating his own Hatori fanfiction:
While Hatori tears it apart:
Then we have Shigure mentioning Hatoriâs relationship with Mayu!
There is also Ayame just being so extra and exuberant with his description of the grueling content that is to come in the story and Shigure being all âI actually feel sorry,â but really he is just sorry that he didnât say a cool, âinspirationalâ type quote in the drama CD that is going to be coming out with the Season 2, Volume 1 DVD.
Itâs so good! T0T
Ok here it is lol. Mabudachi Trio Arc #3!
so in the new mabudachi trio chapter, ayame is concerned that certain parts of the series are so âgruelingâ and âhellishâ that people will stop watching the new anime, and this is his reasoning for why itâs important that no one gives up on the show⌠my guy knows what the fuck is up lmao
This new extra politely told me âplease quit your heavy foreshadowing and shut up and let people form their own opinions about the storyâ
Thanks, Takaya-sensei
Chapter Two of the Mabudachi Trio Arc is *chiefâs kiss*!
First, the Mabudachi Trioâs dumbass chaotic energy was through the roof - as you will soon see. Second, it was meta af and I loved it! Third, they were discussing a very interesting and important topic - whether there should be warnings before the later Furuba episodes due to the âhellish and gruelingâ content (as Ayame put it). And that is a really valid discussion. Finally, there were just so many good moments!?
Iâm going to talk about why this chapter is so great, but first, you can get the English version of the comic (in digital format only) over on Comixology and the Yen Press website. Both sites have the chapter for 1.00 USD and the Yen Press site provides links to even more places where it can be purchased. :) So, about all the excellent moments in this chapter! Letâs jump right in!
Ayame starts going off and Hatori just puts on his glasses and opens up a book to start reading! I died!Â
Then we have Hatori just straight up calling Shigure out.
And Ayame, in a far more obtuse way, agreeing with Hatori.
Plus, probably one of the best ideas that Ayame has ever had in the series, lbr.
And it all ends with Yuki and Machi on a date. Which is adorable! <3 And YukiâŚ
being absolutely S A V A G E!
I LOVE IT! And so does Ayame, lol.

If anyone is looking for the âthree musketeersâ comic which was dropped today⌠I am here to deliver.
Super large spoilers if you havenât read the manga yo!!!!!!!
Another fun aspect of yuki and kyoâs relationship: please think about how the life waiting for kyo (locked up, isolated, scorned by god) is the life yukiâs been silently suffering since childhood, but yuki isnât allowed to acknowledge that. And while yuki doesnât blame kyo for it, I imagine it brings up some bitterness within him that kyoâs free to talk about his experiences as the cat should he so choose and, even if he doesnât, everyone in the family thatâs close to kyo already knows. Whereas yukiâs abuse and isolation are treated like some dirty little family secret. Nobody talks about it, least of all yuki. The only one to directly reference his childhood before moving out is ayame, and heâs so full of guilt that itâd be uncomfortable for yuki to talk to him even if they were close. And tbh part of it is personality too. Kyo wears a lot of his heart on his sleeve. Even if heâs bad at verbalizing issues, his emotions are clear for all to see. Yuki⌠doesnât do that. He locks it up tight so itâs even easier to hide how much he needs help. Please think about how incredibly frustrating it must be for yuki to hear kyo talk about his fear of a life that yukiâs living through while heâs delegated to suffering in silence due to family constrictions and his own fear and lack of confidence
i think itâs also important to remember that yuki, the one who is considered the closest to god due to being cursed by the rat, essentially experienced the isolation and imprisonment that was meant for the cat, the one shunned by god. heâs not only ignored by everyone and emotionally abandoned, but it comes to a head when heâs kept in the black room, made specifically for him by akito.Â
at that point, he must have become disillusioned by the whole order of things. he never really thought of himself as âbetterâ than kyo anyways, not in the sense that heâs the rat and kyoâs the cat; even as children, he never showed disdain for kyo in the way that kyo showed disdain for him. but the role reversal of his and kyoâs experiences, what was versus what was âsupposedâ to be, takes some part in the core of his resentment.Â
itâs as a teenager that he calls kyo an outsider and constantly reminds him that heâs unwanted, but itâs not because heâs changed his mind, and not because he really believes itâs the truth â he sees that it isnât. heâs known the truth of the matter since he was a child: kyo has a foster father who loves him and lets him explore the world. heâs friends with the other cursed kids, because heâs allowed to be with them and they want to be around him. kyo, the one who was supposed to have nothing, has everything that yuki was kept from obtaining.Â
yuki knows that kyoâs life isnât perfect. heâs heard the rumors about his mom, probably knows that his real dad hates him. heâs literally bound to a monster. but heâs unable to look at kyo like the other cursed members do. he canât look at kyo and think, âwell, at least my life isnât as horrible as the catâs. i should be thankful.â because he lived the isolation that was meant for the cat. he was locked in a room like the cat. he was shunned by his family â his parents, his brother, all of his cousins â like the cat. he experienced all of this during his early childhood through to his teens, while kyo wasnât slated to be imprisoned until he was an adult.
his hatred towards kyo isnât a rat vs. cat instinct â it was formed from of a decade of bitterness, confusion, and trauma. heâs left with no one to talk to, and doesnât confide in anyone until he finds a friend outside of tohru and the sohmas, someone so far removed from whatâs going on that he feels even a little unburdened. and, for a long time, he doesnât have the tools necessary to actually deal with whatâs happened, which results in him âdealingâ with it by fighting the only person in the situation he can actually fight, the person that is seen as acceptable to fight: kyo. facing akito about it, much less fighting her, is out of the question for a long time.
But also think about how kyoâs actions must seem to yuki when they were younger and how that carried over to their relationship as teenagers. On top of having everything yukiâs ever wanted, kyo himself is the person who is the harshest in his rejection of yuki. Kyo didnât know ofc, but his blatant assumptions that yuki had a loving family and so many friends sounded like cruel taunts to remind yuki of everything he didnât have. Those words coming from someone with an actual loving parent and real friends (people who chose him!) sting. Kyo, without knowing, was mocking yuki for their entire childhood. From a young yukiâs point of view, kyo must have seemed like he was looking down on yuki. Not only does he eventually gain everything yuki has never had, not only is yuki resigned to silently suffering through the life kyo always talks about (while yuki is expected to bear it in silence). Kyo then has to tell everyone whoâll listen about how much luckier yuki is, how yuki never suffers, how much harder he works in comparison, how he has no one and nothing and yuki is ungrateful for all he has.
It sounds like mockery. It is mockery, even though kyo didnât know. To yuki, itâs like kyoâs saying âyou think you have it tough? You think this is bad? Suck it up, this is what you get. Be gratefulâ. Yuki doesnât know real hardship, kyo doesnât see yukiâs issues as legitimate and he doesnât want to be friends because of thatâto a confused child, thatâs what it must all look like. And those impressions are hard to shake even with age and insight. Yuki was never able to shake the impression that kyo was taunting him
Thatâs why it bothers yuki so much when he sees kyo immediately making friends. Yukiâs awkward and he always has been, plenty of people make friends easier than he does. Hatsuharu is someone who is generally well-liked by pretty much everyone and yet he never draws yukiâs ire for it. But itâs because itâs kyo that it stings. For yuki to see kyo, once again, easily winning over the people heâs been desperately trying for over a year to connect with? Only for kyo to immediately turn around and accuse yuki of knowing nothing about hard work or frustration? Yeah, thatâd tick me off too
Thinking about how Tohru helped Yuki protect his garden during the storm in the beginning of the series so that it can grow and Machi gives Yuki fertilizer to boost not only the speed but the bounds of that growth.
Lol, Jerry Jewell has embraced the Kyo Adidas memes!
It was pointed out on the Fruits Basket Club Facebook Group that Jerry Jewell, Kyoâs English VA, changed his Facebook profile pic to this:
LMAO! But at the same time - we are blessed! <3 Heâs such an amazing voice actor in general, but for Kyo especially. He just is Kyo to me, he really brings Kyo to life, and it warms my heart to see him embracing these silly Kyo Adidas memes. :â)

Kyo and Yukiâs Love Languages
In the Valentineâs Day and White Day chapters of Furuba, we get introduced to Kyo and Yukiâs love languages.
Kyoâs Love Language:
Kyoâs love language is primarily Acts of Service. He tends to show his love through actions. He does show his love through Words of Affirmation (literally any time he has reassured Tohru of something) and Quality Time (him and Tohru making pancakes together/learning from Kyo and Tohruâs granddaughter that they often take walks together/etc.) as well, but he primarily expresses his love for Tohru through physical acts like this - going with Tohru to the hot springs, despite his dislike of Yuki. Him making her soup (with leeks/chives in it) when she gets sick is another example. There are also smaller, simpler moments too, like when Kyo wards off those guys that try to hit on Tohru, because they think she is an âeasy target.â Though, as I noted, Kyo does engage in Words of Affirmation, it isnât his most preferred or comfortable way of expressing his love. He prefers the other love languages more, and I think this is largely due to his mother and his birth father. His birth father just uses his words to spout hate and blame others, while his mother spoke of her love for her son - of his cuteness and how she didnât fear him and etc. - but her actions spoke otherwise, she committed suicide. And, of course, that is a very loaded topic. But, for Kyo, words have never really meant anythingâŚor anything good anyway. Even with Kazuma. Kyo doesnât really seem to genuinely believe in Kazuma and his good intentions until Kazuma literally lifts Kyo up and then proclaims that Kyo will breath from higher up/a higher place and so on. Of course, while Kyo has a lot ofâŚstuff (for a lack of a better word)âŚgoing on with Tohru and his relationship with her at the start of the series. I also think another reason why he struggles with dealing with her and his feelings for her at the start is because Tohruâs primary love language is Words of Affirmation. We donât really see a huge shift in Kyo and Tohruâs relationship until after Kyoâs True Form. Itâs in that moment that we really see Tohru placing action (Acts of Service) and her Words of Affirmation together and aiming those words and actions specifically at Kyo. When she says that she wants to stay together with him, she says it while she is clinging on to him. Her words and her actions match up and support each other. From that moment on, I think Kyo was able to truly trust Tohruâs Words of Affirmation, he was able to understand her primary love language, so we start to see a large shift in their dynamic. Yukiâs Love Language:
Yukiâs primary love language is Receiving Gifts. Thatâs not to say that Yuki hasnât displayed other love languages, he also partakes in Acts of Service (guiding Tohru home, breaking the chalk for Machi), but he really does seem to show his love mostly through gift giving. He gives Tohru a ribbon for White Day here and then with Machi we see him giving her a maple leaf and a Moegeta plush (Machi also gets him fertilizer as a way to show her love back to him, though she also engages in an Act of Service when she broke down the door when Yuki was suffering from a PTSD related panic attack). But, gift giving seems to be Yukiâs primary way of expressing his love. And like with Kyo, this makes sense when you think of the household he grew up in. His motherâs (as well as younger Ayameâs) words and actions were always cold. They didnât offer any love or comfort. So why would he resort to either as a way to express his own feelings of love? He was also viewed as a special and revered Zodiac member due to him being the Rat. So he was always being held above the others. Gift giving is a sort of equalizing and balancing out type of action. When you give someone a gift you are reaching across and bridging those sorts of gaps, you give away a part of yourself every time you give out a gift. So I think that aspect of gift giving is what really appeals to Yuki and is the reason why Receiving Gifts is his main love language. Though, interestingly, Yuki seems to respond more to Words of Affirmation and Acts of Service, especially when it comes to Tohru and Ayame. When Tohru tells him the things he needed to hear or does something simple like help him untangle a button that got stuck in his hair, we see Yuki respond very positively towards that. The same goes for Ayame. When Ayame tries to give Yuki gifts (bringing over peaches, for example) it often times fails. But when Ayame opens up to Yuki about wanting to create things, we see a true connection form between the two brothers for the first time, and that only later gets strengthened when Ayame shows up at the Parent-Teacher-Student conference. Yuki also responds really well to Quality Time with both Tohru and Ayame as well, and this is all likely because his lacked these forms of love language with his own mother. So he desired them. But, when it comes to expressing himself romantically (or when trying to express himself romantically), Yuki gives gifts to show his love. We see this illustrated best through his relationship with Machi.
The âYuki responseâ part also made me think of when Machi gave Yuki the fertilizer. He was happy with it but what gave him the most joy was when she said how thankful she was to Tohru, for helping Yuki become someone braver, so that he could notice someone like her. I like this analysis. Very interesting
Oh! This is a good observation. I think Yuki responds very well/positively to Receiving Gifts when it comes from Machi (a romantic/love interest), but not when it comes from familial like relationships (Tohru and Ayame). As, @jinspiracy pointed out in their tags - Yuki gave Tohru the hat as well, and (narratively speaking) there had been a sort of romantic undertone to the hat situation from the beginning (Tohru telling Uo and Hana that the boy who gave her the hat might have been her first love). But in the end, Yuki never tells Tohru that he was the one who gave her the hat. By the time the story reaches that part, Yukiâs feelings for Tohru have been sorted out and the romantic narrative is no longer there anymore (if I am recalling all of that correctly, itâs been a bit since I did my re-read). With Yuki and Machi, we really only start to see the beginnings of their relationship, so it is hard to say what other types of love languages they will really start to latch onto. The same goes for Kyo and Tohru in a way, @jinspiracy also pointed out that Kyo engages in Physical Touch a lot when it comes to Tohru (note though how he responds negatively to Physical Touch from Kagura, who he views as a sister). And this is definitely true (head bops, hand holding, resting his head on Tohruâs shoulder, embracing her event though heâll know heâll transform), but I didnât really include it in my initial post, because all of those moments are calculated. Kyo could never really freely engage in those types of physical touches, even when he held her hand or bopped her head, there was likely always a huge awareness of the physical closeness and boundaries surrounding them. But once the curse broke? Physical Touch was everywhere with Kyo and Tohru, I have no doubt about this. So once the curse broke, I could see Yuki and Machiâs relationship and their love languages altering a bit, in the sense that there was likely more Physical Touch, but not a whole lot. But their love languages could have altered in other ways as well.
