the dorm room was empty except for Andrew. Kevin was at his afternoon class, and Neil was studying in the library. Andrew decided to work on the essay he had been dreading since it was assigned at the beginning of the week.
he sat criss-cross on the couch, his bare feet felt like ice against his exposed calf where his sweatpants were accidentally pushed up. The tv in front of him was on some sports channel Kevin and Neil liked to watch. he had the game muted while he did his classwork so his eyes could have something to focus on when he wanted to take a few seconds break from writing.
he had been working for less than five minutes before he got bored. who the hell wants to write a three page essay on the symbolism in some century old book? Andrew for sure didn’t. he pushed past the urge to close his laptop and take a nap with the knowledge that if he does some of it now he can finish it tomorrow. that seemed better than stressing about getting it done before it was due. that’s what he was going to do.
he grabbed his headphones from his desk and sank back down onto the couch. he searched through the playlists he has saved to find one that would keep him entertained. he came upon one made by Nicky called “Andrew’s emo phase wasn’t a phase 💀🔪🖤” to which he rolled his eyes, but clicked to put it on shuffle. the playlist was filled with blink-182, Mother Mother, and all other artists and songs that Andrew liked.
he didn’t know how long he had been writing for before the dorm door opened. he looked up to see Neil dropping his bag beside the door and sigh as he rolled his probably sore shoulders. he mentioned that Kevin had been pushing him harder during night practices. Andrew might have to have a word with him.
“hey,” Neil greeted Andrew. he sounded tired.
“hello,” Andrew responded. Neil walked over to sit beside him on the couch.
“essay?” Neil asked. Andrew nodded in return. “sounds boring.”
Andrew only groaned in return and leaned his head back until it hit the back of the couch. he felt his computer move in his lap, and looked up to see Neil trying to grip Andrew’s computer to move it off of him. Andrew let him. he had barely written anything, but he was already tired of it.
“yes or no?” Neil asked with a soft smile. Andrew nodded.
Neil leaned over to kiss Andrew gently on his forehead before placing a hand on his hip and swung his other leg over to the other side. he slumped against Andrew’s chest and sighed deeply when Andrew wrapped his arms around his back.
they lay like that for a while. Neil unmuted the tv, which was now playing a USC game, and he listened to it as he dozed against Andrew.
“hey,” Andrew said after around forty-five minutes. he lightly scratched against his back. “i really have to write that essay.”
Neil groaned loudly. “but i’m comfy,” he responded. “‘wanna lay on you.”
“you can,” Andrew said with a hint of softness in his voice. “just have to sit in a way that i can write as well.”
Neil groaned, but this time in agreement. he sat up and moved to sit beside Andrew, trying to figure out a comfortable way to sit for both of them. they eventually ended up with Neil sitting between Andrew’s legs, his back against Andrew’s chest, and Andrew resting his chin on Neil’s shoulder. Neil hummed in content as he relaxed into his chest. Andrew reached over to grab his computer and put it on Neil’s thighs. he reached around Neil to start typing.
Neil fell asleep to the tapping of Andrew’s keyboard, the cheering of the USC game, and the occasional gentle kisses Andrew pressed to his neck.
“and i’m the one with the neck fetish?” Neil teased right before he fell asleep with a loopy smile. Andrew could tell he was exhausted.
