maybe this was a lapse in my personal diabetes education but i feel like diabetes educators and endocrinologists just donât bring up how menstruation affects your blood sugar. like insulin is a hormone, and iâm not a doctor but i feel like having other major hormonal changes probably screw with most of your hormones?? and i could be completely wrong and thereâs actually nothing to this but it just makes me hmmmmmâŚ..why arenât we informing afab ppl of how this near universal process (menstruation) affects their chronic and deeply involved condition?? and if anyone has experienced this differently pls lmk bc i canât be sure just based on my own experiences.

not religious but if i was i think the devil would come to me in the form of my water heater working overtime in the 82 degree heat to make all slightly warm water scalding hot while iâm trying to deal with my ocd and autism colluding to produce the Worldâs Worst Crossover
something that iâve become really aware of since i moved out of my momâs house and started paying my own bills and stuff is that some adults/parents really donât give a shit about how stressed their kid is. like they always seem to underestimate it.
like when i was 16, i was going to school for 8 hours a day, either going to band practice for 2 hours then work for 4 hours or work for 6 hours. and when i got home iâd STILL have to do homework and eat and shower. sometimes iâd be up until like 12am or 1am just getting all my work done and then iâd have to wake up at 6am and do the whole thing over again. and on top of that, i had to deal with being a newly diagnosed diabetic. but, for some reason, that just did not even remotely compare to how much my family worked for some reason. and iâm not gonna act like they werenât busting their asses either, because they absolutely were, but my stress was always portrayed as asinine. maybe thatâs just my family, i donât know.
but, honestly, i really donât think it is. i think weâve been taught to view teenagers as lazy, no matter how much they actually do. and it doesnât help that most places that hire teenagers are jobs that are considered âmenialâ or ânot a real jobâ. most jobs are real - the fact that some kid works at fuckin McDonaldâs or something (a) doesnât mean theyâre lazy bc they quite literally donât have the work experience to work anywhere else bc theyâre fuckin 16 and (b) does not automatically make them stress free because itâs not some big fancy âimportantâ job. the fact of the matter is MOST IF NOT ALL JOBS ARE STRESSFUL, and these are kids who are also balancing school and social life (if their job even allows them one). however lowly people consider a job does not equate to it being less stressful.
i think it also comes down to how much these kids are actually making at their job because, from firsthand experience, itâs not a lot (esp bc i live in a state with $7.25 minimum wage). we have such a disgusting disrespect for people who work in lower paying jobs. so, when you combine that with the fact that adults donât even consider their job a legitimate job despite them desperately trying to balance school, sports, job, and social life, itâs demeaning and it hurts!!
and the sad part is, most of these kids canât quit their jobs, so thatâs not even a valid excuse. how many kids are out there working to support their family? how many kids out there have family relying on them to bring in extra income? they still have to go to school more often than not. even if they donât need to work to support their family, having money to do things is becoming a huge part of social bonding. not all families can afford to let their teenagers go out to the movies or go get dinner with friends all the time, even if theyâre in an okay spot financially. so, if a teenager doesnât have money for hanging out with their friends, they also experience exclusion. itâs a lose/lose!!
i donât know if any of this made sense but it makes sense to me, and thatâs what counts
