god and how FUCKED is it that the succession ultimately hinged on shiv’s choice, but it was actually no choice at all. your brother (empty husk groomed for power his whole life) or your husband (empty husk who craved power his whole life). for five minutes she had the most power in the room, but it was actually nothing.

The most tragic thing this episode to me is Kendall recanting his confession. That was the one real thing he’d offered his siblings, and he took it back, and now he can’t un-take it back. And they’d given him something real in return, the best version of tenderness they could muster, and now that’s gone too. Kendall was never going to be CEO, but maybe he could’ve been a less lonely man, less apart from the world. (Or maybe not, the trick to tragedies is they always seem avoidable and inevitable at the same time.) Kendall, alone, Colin trailing behind him…he did get to be his dad in the end

you know im actually so glad that this ended the way that it did, because shiv was absolutely right. kendall was not the right person for this job. and not only was it already being shown how quickly kendall was becoming a monster just like logan was with the power just only in his grasp (the scene of him “hugging” roman??? the irony??) and how much worse things would have become with him in charge. in the end shiv not only protected herself by voting against kendall but she probably also saved both herself and roman from the continued cycle of abuse and manipulation. shiv finally broke the cycle even if it sticks her in her own private hell for the rest of her life

there might be some disagreements over shiv's character this last episode but what i rescue from this is that shiv, despite following the cycle and becoming her mother, has saved so her two brothers from it. i dont know what the agreement is on what is coming for kendall but she definitely saved roman. i think it was the bravest decision she has made in the entire show. and i think what i love about it is that she made it on her own. she might be caroline now, becoming a mother, her mother, but she played a part on saving, maybe the most affected child under logan's parenting. she freed roman from the cage.
