an Asian house centipede preying on a ground cricket I fed him, in 1/4 real time. these guys move so fast that slow motion makes them look normal!

in my estimation scutigeromorphs are one of the most elegant hunters of all arthropods. each walking leg is a prehensile lasso, capable of wrapping several times around an insect’s limb. the venom delivered through two forcipules (modified legs) works almost instantly, paralyzing prey in seconds.

they’ve been around for over 400 million years and haven’t changed much in that time… hunting bugs in style for almost as long as there have been bugs on land to hunt

they also happen to be adorable. look at this guy’s big eyes and noodle hands!
