louis: hates snapchat filters, wears clothing 2 sizes too big, feels strongly about the most random things, sits down in the middle of the woods and lets everyone else find a way for him not to get killed by a bear after nightfall, will keep reminding you he is in fact taller than your dad when you try to confront him about anything

harry: refuses to participate in whatsapp culture, owns clothing that is way older than him, is always judging you, glitches when faced with memes, people (mitch) deal with him by drinking wine on the regular, leaves the house only when strictly necessary 

niall: constantly complains, tells people to shut up, is always tired, knows everyone and their parents, is in constant danger of hurting himself by doing mundane things, emphasises how boring his life is on the regular, golfs

This post is dedicated to @iampackratseemehoard because I adore their thrifting game, “Harry or Mary Berry,” beyond all reason. (It is as it says: go to a thriftshop, find the wildest shirt you can find, and try to determine if it’s better suited for Harry or Mary Berry (or in the best of all cases, both).)

The more you compare these two style icons, the harder this game is to play…they’re both tremendous clothes horses who adore color, and they aren’t afraid to step outside the comfort zone of their respective cohorts. Want proof? Here ya go!

God, where to start, but this is probably one of my favorite side by sides (no comment on their collaring choices):

One of the absolute best kinds of florals = dark florals, and I’m not surprised that they both look fab in it (I have a friend who insists that these are called winter florals?? whatevs, gaze at this perfection):

The craziest thing I learned as I pulled this post together is how much Mary Berry loves stars, I mean, there are literally dozens of pictures of her in different starry jumpers, but I like this pairing the best (sorry for cutting off the cheese grater, Mazza…and your arm, Hazza):

I want justice for Harry’s suit, and I have it in the form of Mary Berry wearing something pretty damned similar:

I think it’s a really good example of a weak understanding of how fans like us function. 

I get the impression that the two middle aged guys on the podcast sharing their theory have their own experience of being a fan that is very analytical. They listen to music, collect records, go to shows and buy merch.

I think they think this is what all fan experience is. 

The podcast boils down to:

1. all fans want recognition 

2. your aim is to move fans up to “the next level” (because they will spend more money and spread the word organically) 

3. the best promo is grassroots promo (a recommendation from a friend is way more powerful than an ad) 

So as we all now know, Nick’s last show is going to be Thursday 9th August and we will all be horribly bereft (until he starts on afternoons and we can get our daily dose of Nick again).  Nick’s Breakfast Show has been such a mainstay of my life over the past 6 years - through house moves, new jobs, new friends, and everything else along the way, and I’m sure it’s been the same for a lot of you too.  To that end I was thinking that it would be good to mark the last day in some sort of co-ordinated or semi co-ordinated way, to let Nick and the rest of the team, old and new, know how much we’ve enjoyed the show and all the work they’ve put into it.

Obviously we’re all in different time zones and things but my idea was for us to make a lot of noise on social media that morning using a shared hashtag so the team could easily browse our tweets/tumbles and for as many of us as possible to send emails to the show’s address (which we know they check) telling them how much we’ve each enjoyed it.

The show’s email address is:  [email protected] and the twitter is of course  @R1Breakfast.  I’m thinking the #teamgrimmy for the tweets and tumbles for old time’s sake (and it’s reasonably short LET’S BE PRACTICAL HERE) and just something big and positive for your email subject line so they’ll spot them easily  (NICK DON’T LEAVE US!!!1!! is a dramatic but perfectly acceptable example).

Tell them what the show has meant to you.  Remind them of your favourite features/jokes/stunts. Share your favourite pictures, gifs and audio with the rest of us.  Tag breakfast show team members old and new on twitter if you want (@grimmers @fionaradio @mattfincham @ichaloner  @lauramaycoope @ProducerVic @TinaDaheley). Let’s send our wonderful, warm, ridiculous show out on a high <3

I know why!!!

Because within this fandom and assimilationist gay culture (i.e., gay “activism” resting on the “we’re just like you!!!” narrative that caters to straight acceptance and normativity), LGTBQ lives are only worthy of protecting and celebrating if they are actively sanitized. Straight folks are alright with sanitized gay narratives because then we are not like those gays, the dirty gays, the angry gays.

 It’s why gay history and cruising culture get erased, why leather culture and working class queer culture are not prioritized, why everyone here loves Drag Race and Queer Eye but have no idea who Tom of Finland or Buck Angel is.  It trickles down to the fandom and becomes the reason why slow dancing in their socks saying I love you all the time head canons are considered more “acceptable,” than writing kink. Because the reality of gay sex, gay otherness, isn’t what appeals to straight people. It’s commodifying and consuming us in a way they can understand.
