Fuck Yes, Team!

I had to think for a while on this one, because I didn't think I really had any unpopular opinions about David. But there is one thing, and that's that I think the fandom kind of overlooks one fact about David; he is the best friend out of the main trio.

I think Hilda and Frida are closer, especially by Season 2, but the thing is, both of them enjoy adventure in a way that David often doesn't. He has to face his fears time and time again for the sake of his friends, and ultimately, every time he does. He stands by them when they need him most; when Frida's being really awful to Hilda in Season 1, David calls her out on it, even though he's known her for longer than Hilda and sees her as his best friend.

And then after that, despite how much of a terrible friend Frida has been and how easy it would be to leave her behind, he still can't bring himself to let the Marra manipulate her. He stares down the literal embodiment of fear itself, and one of the biggest sources of his anxiety in the season, because despite what Frida's been doing lately he still knows her, and he still cares. That's the thing about David for me; under everything, he cares.

He cares so much that when he does feel afraid, he worries that he's holding Hilda and Frida back; he's insecure about being a coward because he feels like it's hurting his friends, like they don't deserve him, and that gets to him so deeply that he tries to change himself just to be the person he thinks they need.
