5. Even if you aren’t into learning the language, there are countless amazing foreign movies and songs you really can’t enjoy without subtitles!

7. Can help when you’re having a party and you don’t want to pause every time someone wants to make a comment/joke

8. Can help when the characters in the show have a heavy accent (especially in period shows) 

9. Let’s be honest subtitles can really add to the humor of the show! (”sobs mathematically”, “screeches loudly”, “angrily fixes bowtie”)

10. Can let people watch content without headphones, or in areas of loud noises. 

11. Alternatively, If someone has sensitive hearing or is triggered by loud noises, they can turn the volume down low and still be able to enjoy the content

12. The last bit is VERY true for movies where they switch between soft speaking and LOUD BOOMING NOISES (I’m looking at you hunger games)

13. Very good for helping young kids recognize and associate words and learn to read faster!

14. Really good when you’re eating chips/crunchy candy and can’t hear the movie

Was your mother embarrassed when she had to meet with the principal to discuss why you aren’t graduating AGAIN? I feel bad for your mom, but hopefully you respect her, because her womb was likely the last time that you were inside a woman. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, of course, but I honestly think that women of all sizes, shapes, ages, ethnicities, etc are beautiful, because they are, and I can assure you that I am far from alone in thinking that every single woman on my blog is amazing. I think the ♥s, comments and reblogs of their pictures support that. Also, I know many of these women in real life and I can attest to how many guys from their teens on up constantly pester them to meet them… maybe you got turned down? Sounds like you might get that a lot. Maybe you should work on that personality. Most importantly, the point of X-Ray Friday is to be body positive of everyone and empower anyone who wants to reveal what’s beautiful and sexy, hiding just below one thin layer of clothes. I honestly think that many people who submit their pictures feel that they aren’t perfect. They see flaws that none of us do. They worry about how they may be seen or perceived. And when they do reveal themselves to us, they find that we see only the things that make them unique, that make them interesting, that make them so very sexy. And fuck, are they ever sexy. Especially because they put themselves out there bravely, even though a coward like you could possibly hide behind anonymity and ignorantly call them names. But people like you are far “outweighed” by people like me who admire, respect and get very turned on by the opportunity to appreciate them. The nice thing is that anyone who feels that they are uncomfortable with their own weight is capable of changing that, but you’re stuck with the ugliness, ignorance and self hatred that drove you to insult some very beautiful and sexy women. I wish that I felt sorry for you, but I don’t.

But most of all I let people in my life like @risuperman, @inkdnready & @whatucravin share the stuff I CHOOSE submit to them (because it’s a gift, they’re not demanding or asking)share my photo because of people like you. Because these are what MEN look like. They choose to lift up and be positive to all people. Just as the way it should be because guess what! People are different. They come from all over and have different genetics. That’s an amazing and beautiful thing. Sucks for you to miss out on it. But they appreciate beauty in its rawest form and that’s an amazing thing.

So here ya go anon. You can kiss my plus size ass.

Over the summer I started creating a wand from a stick that I found whilst on a walk in the park (I have no idea what the wood is, but I felt an affinity for it straight away!). Once university started back up I left it behind and didn’t think much about it. But this weekend I found it again and I decided to finish it off and start using it!

Making the Wand:

Please bear in mind, I am not at all skilled at wand making or woodwork - there are lots of tutorials that you can find online! This is the way that I did it:

Find a stick which is fairly straight and slightly thicker and longer than you’d like your finished wand to be. Don’t pick one that has lots of off-shoots. I prefer to find mine on the ground rather than take them from the tree as I’m not confident on ownership rights and how to not harm the tree, et cetera. 

Take the bark off of the stick, I did this by soaking the stick first and then scraping the bark off. You could also whittle the bark away if you are adept at that (please be careful though). I then whittled the stick to get down to the light wood and take off any sticky-out parts. 

Then sand the stick down to get it fairly smooth and smooth out the ends. I finished off with a nail file to fine tune it. I then carved a spiralling line on the bottom end of the wand.

Wash it with plain water to get rid of the dust and to begin cleansing it. Once it was dry I buffed it with a clean cotton cloth and coconut oil fragranced with cedar and rosemary essential oils. Once that had soaked in, then I moved on to the next steps!

Cleansing, Charging and Enchanting the Wand:

A couple of nights before the full moon, I cleansed the wand with green salt. I had made this from sea salt, dried parsley, rosemary and heather. I placed the wand on the windowsill, over a ‘cleanse’ sigil and poured over the salt. I left it like that until the morning of the full moon. 

Once I had tipped off the salt and brushed off the wand, I moved on to the charging phase. I drew out my ‘cleanse and charge’ sigil, on a large piece of paper, in green ink. I placed my wand in the middle and round the edge I placed some of my favourite crystals - which have energy types that I was hoping to imbue into my wand: clear quartz for charging, and then rosey quartz, amethyst, moss agate and blue topaz. 

I left this as it was all day and then as even approached I began to think about enchanting my wand. I wrote out the intent on a piece of paper: ‘May this wand serve as a tool of my magic. Enchant it so that a spark grows within it. Forces of sky, of earth, and of sea, make this wand a part of me.’ And I included sigils ‘enchant’ and ‘charge’. I wrapped the paper around the wand and sealed that with a yellow ribbon. I placed it back with the crystals and left it on the windowsill overnight to charge by the full moon. 

Now it’s ready to use! I have to say, it feels amazing and fits perfectly in my hand. It’s my no means perfect or pretty, but that suits me as I won’t be afraid to use it in my daily practise. If it gets scuffed or marked, I think that it will add to its charm!

I am a huge Batman fan, and villains have great costumes. I made the Mr. Freeze a couple years ago but don’t wear it often due to it being extremely uncomfortable. I wanted to to a couples costume with my wife and we have kicked around the “Nora” idea but this year we finally created a concept that we had never seen anyone do.

I like to make my costumes appear to function in the real world. Mr. Freeze is real steel and copper that I shaped and welded. I made it rusty, since a cold metal would gather condensation and then cause the metal to rust. The tanks on the back do spread cold vapor to the arms and legs when I put dry ice and water in them. The freeze gun does shoot real snow! It is connected to a liquid CO2 tank and when the vapor condenses in the barrel, snow flakes come shooting out. I was kinda lucky my first prototype worked!

Nora had to be lighter and easier to carry. It is several rolls of black EVA foam and the trim pieces are just painted to give the rusty appearance. The cap is real patina on copper, ( I had to put some real metal on it). The whole thing is supported by patio umbrella top and pole connected to a military Alice backpack harness.

Mr. Freeze alone get a great response, but when people saw Nora along side, it really excited them. One photographer told us that he has been doing cosplay photography for 20 years and has never seen a Nora done that way. That alone made the costumes worth it. I always try to put a little extra something into the costumes I make.

Some people thought I put Elsa from “Frozen” in a tank, but usually their friends will correct them. Some just aren’t DC people… I get it. It was fun to see people “connect the dots” when the saw us. They were like “Wow, cool Mr. Freeze!” then when they saw Nora and read the nameplate, it turned into “HOLY SHIT! THAT’S AWESOME!! If we wear them again I will have to put a fan in Elsa’s cryogenic tube. She was getting hot in there, I believe that’s pure irony…

If you do cosplay, you will make friends, it’s almost a guarantee. We definitely have. I would say one of the side effects for me is that cosplay has allowed me to utilize many of the different skills I have learned throughout my life; painting, leatherwork, sewing, auto repair, electrical, even plumbing. Making and wearing costumes has also brought my family together, our kids are 7 and 11 and not only do they suggest and help with new costumes but then we have great family weekends wearing our creations. Parenting win! Cosplay has given me a great boost in confidence, for the first time I feel that I really excel in something that I enjoy.

Don’t be afraid to start anytime and anything. I was 35 when I started, I wish I knew about it when I was a teen. I thought my parents and other family would laugh when I started, but they are actually huge supporters. Don’t be intimidated not knowing how to do something, meet it head on, there’s a world of resource online where you can learn just about everything. I am currently building a real, prototype, road legal, Batmobile that I want to use as a charity, Make-A-Wish vehicle. So watch my page and stay tuned!!!
