Our chipmunk loves bok choy and eats it every day. But it's getting stupid expensive, so I just planted a few scraps from the grocery store and now he has an unlimited free supply. 🥬🐿
Safeway wants $7/lb for bok choy here in the Seattle area. Yeeeeeah they can swallow my whole ass...

It's been an absolutely horrific couple of months for me health-wise, but I finally have some good news: I can now do laundry at home, and the whole system is 100% solar powered. No more wasting time and money at the laundromat, and zero impact on the electric bill!
I still don't have a washing machine, but honestly I don't want or need one. I wash clothes in a 5 gallon bucket, and since I'm so tiny, my clothes are also tiny and I can fit a lot in there in one session. I soak them in very hot water for 10-15 minutes, agitate with a plunger for 1 minute, drain the water, refill with cold water for first rinse, agitate, and refill one more time for second rinse. I do this right in the bath tub. Excluding the soak, it's like 5 minutes of work, so I feel a washing machine is overkill.
I used to hand-wring and line dry, which is barely viable when you have carpal tunnel syndrome and it rains 80% of the year. Hang drying inside an RV causes mold growth like crazy, especially in this climate.
The spinner changes everything. That thing gets clothes 90% dry in 3 minutes. Then they go straight into my new mini-dryer for another 15-20 minutes. Done.
The laundromat used to eat up a whole day and it costs so much money. This is seriously life changing. I'm so happy right now.
I want to give a HUGE thanks to everyone who has ever donated to me, you made this possible. ❤️ I have been putting a little money away for this for a couple years now and I can't believe it finally happened. $400 just solved a giant ongoing problem for me.
Huge huge huge quality of life improvement!!!

Big 10ft tall osoberry bush in the backyard. I cloned all my female plants from this one.
+ lettuce and bok choy scraps from the grocery store are growing fast
Stuff to do:
-Fix car (I think it just needs a new battery...i hope)
-Build security gate and fence for driveway to protect solar panels
-Build stand for solar panel array
-Install tankless water heater (will need to hire an RV tech, I'm not DIYing anything related to propane)

More plants are plantening

I moved some of the more deer-resistant plants out front to make more room in the back garden.

Sometimes I feel like a pathetic piece of crap. Then I see someone claiming to have "phantom sense" faking a seizure because they had an "allergic reaction" to a virtual strawberry in VR Chat. You know what? I'm doing okay in life.
My ultimate goal is to go completely off-grid, and I've been slowly chipping away at this for the last 4 years or so. I made a huge leap today by finally ordering a plug-in solar setup and a propane-powered water heater. (our electric water heater actually crapped out a long time ago and we couldn't afford to replace it until now)
I decided to finally bite the bullet on this because the price of electricity and solar panels is about to rocket thanks to the data center bullshit, so there's probably never going to be a better opportunity than now. I was able to put half the money down, I'll pay off the other half over the next few months.
The solar won't be able to power everything by itself, but it'll make a sizeable dent. That, plus eliminating the electric water heater, will also save us money on electricity in the long run (roughly $70-$100/month if my calculations are correct)
Most importantly, long power outages are becoming more common in my area, so this will help insulate us against shit like that too. We can still run the air conditioner for a few hours a day when the power goes out in summer, and we'll soon be investing in a Chinese diesel heater so we can have cheaper heat in winter too.
After that, I'd like to replace the RV fridge ASAP with a normal apartment fridge that I can just plug into the solar station. Our current solar setup can actually run that 24/7 by itself. That's going to be a life saver next time the power goes out for a week.
I'll update when the items arrive and everything's set up. I'm cautiously optimistic. Hopefully I can make it all work the way it's supposed to.

Chipmunks are one of the very few animals in North America who will eat invasive Japanese knotweed, apparently.
Well at least SOMEONE likes it...
I spent 3 hours making soil today. My back ;_;
This year's soil ingredients: Peat moss + coco coir + steer manure + chicken manure + pumice + bonemeal + lime
Just planted some corn, sunflowers, and amaranth today too.
