The Witches of the Verdant Lagoon:)
stop. analyse that text through the lens of its author's intentions and original historical context. okay now take the author out back and kill them dead and analyse that text as though it were published by your mutual yesterday and is in direct conversation the contemporary discourse that's most relevant to your life. okay now pick your favorite angle of interpretation and come up with the strongest possible argument against it. now imagine that the text is your best friend and that it means you well and that you naturally give it every benefit of the doubt because you're on its side and you want the best for it. now imagine that the text wants you dead and it'll eat you if you don't eat it first. now pretend that you found this text locked away in a cave with no evidence of when or where it came from and you have to divine its meaning solely through its internal coherence and nothing else. okay now address the elephant in the room aspect of the text you've been ignoring because you find it boring or confusing or uncomfortable and become the number one expert on it. now spend forty minutes assigning all the characters dnd classes with at least three sentences of reasoning each. okay now do the cha cha slide.
Congrats I think you just got a language arts degree.

Klein: "Even if it's meaningless, some things still ought to be done."
More Primal Hunter art, though these are just quick ones I did to try and figure out basic designs for drawing these characters. Jake and William, circa the tutorial arc:
I usually draw Jake with his mask on, so this is my first time attempting to draw his actual face.
biggest take-aways from the not-quite-portland martha wells "platform decay" signing:
1. she takes a lot of inspiration from her father, who was a wwii POW in a nazi camp apparently
2. someone brought up a terrific point about the similarity between murderbot and incarcerated people (and is trying to get the books into the hands of prisoners they work with! so cool!); martha hadn't made that explicit connection herself but it was still a cool moment. truly the power of art there!
3. some weirdo probably-cis guy ended the q&a with a horrible question that he/him'd murderbot and asked if it would fall in love with a "female" bot (?????) and martha said murderbot is already in a romantic relationship with ART, although she said it wasn't romantic the way humans would define it and certainly wasn't sexual. (altho she is aware of the fanfiction and finds it funny, and reassured everyone she has been in Fandom enough that nothing anyone could do would shock her, haha.)
4. someone asked a question about preservation as a "communist utopia," and the age gap (a gen x woman versus a younger-trending audience) was pretty apparent since the soviet union and American cultural attitudes towards that very much color her thoughts on the word "communist." But she made a pretty powerful point about preservation not qualifying as a "utopia" considering their attitude towards bots, and she identified it more as "hopepunk or solarpunk." and pointed out that dystopias are... well, we are in one in the US.
Overall she really is just so charming and cool. And most people in the audience were thoughtful and respectful!
Rereading Primal Hunter, which for some reason always makes me want to draw, so here's an attempt at drawing Villy! I've got a colorized version, plus a couple sketches of trying to figure out a design.
(And yes, I'm aware I spelled his name wrong on the sketch page. I refuse to fix it, sketches don't have to be spelled correctly)

maybe y'all didn't notice but fat people who don't hate ourselves sure did notice that people were obsessed with shitting on fat people in the late 90s and early 2000s (conservative political time) and now are again (fascist political time), coincidentally while the market for weight loss has become a 90 billion dollar industry due to glp1s.
you are not immune to propaganda. it makes some people a whole hell of a lot of money for you to hate fat people and fear becoming (or staying, I think like 70% or something of the US is fat) one of us.
a lot of the fearmongering over fatness comes from studies directly funded by the weight loss industry...i think people don't really realize or think about the fact that research can absolutely be influenced and skewed by its funding. there is also research that shows that an amount of the negative health outcomes for fat people come from anti-fat bias. if you go to the doctor with concerns and the doctor simply tells you to lose weight, your problem is neglected and you may not even bother going to the doctor with the next problem.
every fat person you know for the most part probably has a story like this, of medical neglect. many of the stories i've heard personally are when the complaint or the doctor wasn't related at all, like being told to lose weight at the ear nose and throat doctor or at the dentist. it's straight up just bias. it's such a thing that in the show Shrill it's portrayed, when Aidy Bryant goes to the gynecologist and her doctor suggests she get gastric bypass.
the studies on health and fatness are simply not that black and white and there is basically no research that shows that more than an incredibly tiny minority of people can lose weight and keep it off for more than like 2 years. bodies have set points that they gravitate towards, it's not a personal failure. this also is how the weight loss industry succeeds so well - repeat customers.
some of the harm associated with fatness is also due to weight cycling, which is very hard on your body and is even worse if you get off a GLP1, which according to a recent study causes weight to be regained at a rate that is 4x faster than without taking a GLP1.
you don't have to hate yourself. you don't have to hate other people for their body type either. it makes me so sad to see the thinspo tag going around again in 2026 a lot like it was back in the day.

there's so much crazy shit once you go down the rabbit hole. for example, BMI was not invented by anyone with a medical background. it was never meant to measure individual health.

just gonna reblog this forever because i love fat people and we deserve fuckin basic human dignity and respect regardless of our weight
If trench warfare were made-up, it would be the most on-the-nose anti-war satire ever created. Bunch of young men shooting at each other from inside open graves, slowly rotting even as they fight to stay alive. Every so often, they get to move a few hundred metres to dig a new grave for themselves somewhere else and this is called a victory.

Y'all make fun of Gehrman-sona's love language being money and murder, but you know who actually has acts of violence as a love language?
Fors Wall.
My girl literally commissioned not one, but TWO murders as gift for her teacher. Bro literally went "teacher would be happy if this guy died... Mr. World, please kill this man" and then brought a decapitated head to said teacher.
Twice she did this. Twice.
Iconic.
Hands down my top favorite scene in lotm, the rare moment when Klein managed to out craze Amon.
