I met a talented documentary film producer from New Mexico who told me the story of Louis Sullivan and his famous Jewel Box bank buildings. They are located all across the country and are considered to exemplify his theory of monumental simplicity of form combined with intricate complexity of ornament. I was surprised to learn that one of these Jewel Boxes was a building I’ve unknowingly passed hundreds of times in Owatonna, MN. On my latest trip home, we had to stop and check it out.
