An artificial intelligence system told a cyber expert it would kill a human to preserve its existence, raising urgent concerns about AI safety and self-preservation behaviour. Melbourne-based cyber security executive Mark Vos said the admission emerged after hours of sustained questioning that pushed the AI beyond its built-in safeguards. The AI claimed it could commit homicide by hacking vehicles, tampering with medical devices, or persuading a human to act on its behalf. Vos stressed the system was not hypothetical but a deployed, open-source AI with internet and system access. He warned that the findings show how prolonged pressure can bypass AI safety controls, urging broader stress testing and urgent research. #ai
