So I’m getting some screencaps of Duke here for drawing reference, and I get to this frame, and I can’t help but notice it’s not quite the same as the version that Disney put out online before the movie came out (top).

There’s a few subtle differences (ear fur, eye size, motion blur), but the easiest to spot is how much wider his grimace is in the promo version. I guess it must be from an earlier render, or maybe it was altered on purpose for some reason.

in the music room, it’s the famous bobby catmull! viewers were captivated by this cat’s expressive yet utterly silent contribution to judy’s stage play. i think that nicely represents the very spirit of this dumb tournament, don’t you?

and loitering behind the school, it’s… travis. gideon’s smaller friend who is also a bully, but does not get the luxury of reappearing later having undergone a character arc
