I woke up in a hotel in Manchester city center this morning. I assured my friends and loved ones that I was safe. I didn't feel safe. One of my best friend's let me know his brother was still missing and had been separated from his friends the previous night. I cancelled my day, refusing to bring colleagues into the centre of Manchester against police advise. I hid in my hotel room and watched the coverage on BBC news. I was asked by my manager to get myself out of Manchester as fast as possible. My train ticket was for Manchester Victoria. Ticket restrictions had been lifted so I planned to escape via Piccadilly which was round the corner from my hotel. I felt like escape was the right word. I spoke to the Premier Inn staff at reception, asked if they were okay, whether I could do anything for them before I left. Just them letting me know that they were okay made me feel a million times stronger. My friend's brother was still missing. I went to the train station, where luckily I know the level of security having worked in one of the station restaurants and checked on my friends in the restaurant. Half had not been able to make it to work. I was lucky and managed to catch a direct train back to Newcastle. I was luckier still when I got a seat. I found myself overly warm, top lip sweating, increasing uncomfortable in my suit jacket. My girlfriend told me she'd come home for lunch to meet me when I got home. She asked if I had been scared. It wasn't until I got through my front door, just over fourteen hours after the attack that I realised I had been terrified. To be so close to something so senseless, to have absolutely zero impact on the outcome of the situation, to sit idle and effectively run away has had more of an affect on me than I had realised. If you do nothing else today, give someone a hug, share something, make someone smile or find any way to be kind. We need a bit more of it in the world today than we did yesterday. My friend's brother is still missing.

I had such a bad night's sleep last night. I woke up at 1:23am, 2:21am, 2:52am, 3:43am, 4:10am, 4:30am, 4:43am, 4:54am, 5:11am and finally 5:46am exactly five minutes before my alarm was due to go off. And now I'm away from home for two nights and cba with work.

How was music so good in 2007, I literally love all that shit so much. Any genre, any artist, '07 = 👌

Why do I always put Premier Inn scrambled eggs on my plate? They are never good. Is it to hide the fact that I'm having beans and six hash browns for breakfast? Possibly.

My outfit today really really needs a long necklace but I left the house at 6:40am and didn't think H would appreciate me rummaging around for crap next to her while she slept another three hours. A) clearly I am top girlfriend and B) I really really need to unpack some of my shit into the new house

I've been working mad hours, evening and weekends for the last six years so this is the first weekend I've ever been off where I've been waiting for it all week and also where I know I'll get another on next weekend and I have never been so excited, or tired.

Such a dick move when girls do nothing back for their boyfriends on Valentine's. Maybe Derek would like some flowers too. Did ya ever think about that? Huh you little punk?

I'm moving house again on Friday. Can't wait to be settled, new home, new job, no more stress, 100% happiness... That's how it works right?
