“thank you for this,” nat begins, her voice a bit stilted. the offer of lunch in the city was nice to get, but she feels out of place still. she’s uncomfortable among other royals when barbie isn’t around. at least, when it comes to social situations. she can string together any political deal, but when it comes to discussing… compatibility with a prince she’d never met. her father thought china was a great match, a great place for natasja to be sent away to. but she wanted something closer to home. she didn’t want to abandon her people, her home, “it’s nice to feel welcomed somewhere. the last girl i had a discussion like this with brought her boyfriend along. it did not go well, i had to call my best friend to save me.”

he was told he’d meet someone, and to behave. these were requests zhaohui, in theory, could fulfill. in practice, he changed their plans last minute, dragged her to a family-owned restaurant situated in a quieter alley, and was honestly a moment away from trying to impress her by doing something stupid. “oh... yeah, absolutely! there are so many cool places here. i could take you to more! if you get hungry later tonight i know this cool dumpling place, and a reaaaally nice rooftop bar after that...” he smiled excitedly, honestly. “i can show you around. if you treat people well, there’s no reason why they wouldn’t treat you the same way – that’s my motto! i think you’ll end up finding some favourite here once we’re done.”
