she's sitting there staring at a book. she can read the words, turn the text into sound, but she can't put anything together. she cannot understand the story, the ideas made by their connections. when she was a little boy this was her favorite book, she could so vividly imagine what was going on, she even created some fan fic and art. now, through, all she can do is silently mouth each word, each disconnected from the one before, until her eyes lose focus. she touches her cheek. it's wet.
