what she means: I really hate the anti-snape argument that "he really should have just gotten over Lily and moved on" because we all know that's total bullshit. When you're living a life where no one pays attention to you or really gives you the love and affection that you need to function as a human being, you tend to fucking remember the people who do. Snape clearly never had that kind of kindness or friendship from fucking ANYONE in his life. At home he was probably being abused (we know he was at the minimum being neglected because of his appearance), and having been bullied by James Potter for most of his time at school, he probably didn't feel very safe or accepted at Hogwarts either. He can't call either place a home. There's no place where he's really safe. AND HE CERTAINLY DIDN'T FIND A REAL HOME IN THE DEATH EATERS EITHER. He was only a half blood so he had to work extra hard to so much as be considered worthy and 'accepted' (and he wasn't really accepted as a person that anyone really cared about emotionally in the death eaters. He wouldn't have switched sides at all if anyone really cared about what was going on with HIM, and what HE needed in that ring of pureblood supremacists), and secondly, Snape's boggart is fucking VOLDEMORT. GODDAMN VOLDEMORT, THE PERSON HE PLEDGED HIS ALLIEGENCE TO ORIGINALLY. THAT'S A TOXIC WAY OF THINKING IF EVER I'VE SEEN ONE, THAT CAN ONLY BE EXPLAINED BY A LACK OF ACCEPTANCE AND LOVE. Like no SHIT he held on to Lily for so goddamn long. She's the ONLY PERSON WHO DIDN'T JUDGE HIM, WHO ACCEPTED HIM FOR WHO HE WAS, WHO LOVED HIM AS A FRIEND UNCONDITIONALLY, WHO FUCKING WAS INTERESTED IN WHAT HE WAS THINKING AND FEELING AS A FUCKING HUMAN BEING, AND WHO, ACCORDING TO ROWLING, MIGHT HAVE RETURNED HIS AFFECTIONS HAD HE NOT PUT HIMSELF ON THE AUTOMATIC DEFENSIVE AGAINST EVERYONE ELSE WHO WISHED HE WOULD PRETTY MUCH DIE, AND FUCKED IT UP. And note you that he REALIZED that HE was the one in the wrong and apologized. HE NEVER DID THIS TO ANYONE ELSE. And he never held some sort of grudge against HER for not forgiving him, because the kindness she showed towards him THAT NO ONE ELSE EVER SHOWED HIM could NEVER be trumped by anything else she could have, or did do to him.
