Thursday posting continues, thank all the bright little gods. We will take a break from tumblr pages after @zelgan-week (it starts this Sunday! Are you excited yet? There will be roundup posts on the official blog and an Ao3 collection just like last year) to give me a little more production time and prep for some travel. This third of five projected volumes continues in active production and the newest page will post as usual around 3pm CST on my patreon and Discord.

In which the lovers’ quarrel pivots…

I truly do enjoy working on this little gothic tale, but oh the swearing I do every time I have to render the detail on this man’s armor. There’s a little easter egg in the flourishes on the side of the upper cuirass if you squint. It’s there in canon too if you can catch him at the right angle, and when I say the questions that detail visible in the HD rerelease raises launched a hundred thousand words of fic I’m severely understating it at this point…

Anyway, with this pasted up for your entertainment it’s time for me to get back to my @zelgan-week projects. How much of the stack of Ideas™️ do you think I’ll get all the way to the finish line? Are you making delights for it this year? There’s some really juicy prompts this time around. A new challenger enters the arena! Yes, over 50K words deep and we're finally meeting all the main cast.

Zelda folded the letter back up along the creases, pressing them tightly shut. A Bombchu of a message, ready to snake forward and blow open a door, if only she aimed it correctly. 

“This,” she decided, tucking it into her bodice, “requires a prompt response.”

She felt Link’s eyes as she rose from the bed, retrieving her handy-dandy notebook from where she’d set it near the door. She flipped a good twenty pages past the list she’d begun, just in case the pen’s impressions left indents of her thoughts. 

Your Majesty, I regret to inform you that I cannot make our standing appointment this evening. As you are aware, I have obligations predating our agreement made scarcely a week ago, and I cannot set my livelihood on fire for an unpaid assignment of indeterminate length. I have debts to pay, and none of us can be too sure how long our relevance will endure.  I look forward to resuming our scheduled meetings tomorrow.  Best, Songbird

“I need you to deliver this,” she told Link when she approached the desk, pressing the generic palace wax seal to the ripped page’s edges. 

“Can’t wait,” he muttered. “How do I tell the Chancellor apart from all the other peacocks in the pit?”

“You’re not delivering it to the Chancellor. This is for the King.”

Link winced through a blink, as if she might actually be a drunken mirage from a night that hadn’t ended after all. “I’m sorry. What?” 

“But you can’t bring it to him until Friday night,” she warned, scrawling the letters H.R.M. across the front. “Not until I’ve brought the Chancellor back here. Also I hope your new best friend wants to get beers on Friday.”

“Zelda—!”

“You’re just the messenger,” she insisted. “He won’t take it out on you.” 

Probably.

Most likely not.
