When Wyatt got his powers, he was disappointed is the lightest way to put it. He'd somehow gotten ones closer to his father who he wanted nothing to do with. His eyes held a promise that he and his mother would match, that he would get her powers, but that was a lie. So he convinced his mom to let him relax and bleach his hair - which then became a shield to hide his vulnerability. The promise and the betrayal both hidden. Eventually any vulnerability was hidden behind the sheet of hair constantly covering his eyes.

And then he met Amata. He let her in, only to be left behind.

Alex helped to pick up the pieces after she was gone, the shield went away after much longer than Alex would've hoped - but eventually he was able to see them. For once in over 10 years his eyes weren't something to lock away.

Wyatt still had his routine. That never changed. Relax, bleach, maybe dye if Alex could convince him to do something new. Only now it was for him, not to hide something.

Then Amata showed up again.

So here he was again, in front of the mirror like he had many times before in his life. And regardless of him liking the color, or Amata thinking the color suited him or something, he wanted the purple gone.
