Hugo & Loki Assasin AU (art & story belong to me)
————————————————————————
The nights of Lyon were beautiful in a way that only a dangerous city could be.
Golden streetlights spilled across rain-darkened pavement, reflecting off shop windows and empty sidewalks like scattered shards of amber. Cafés were beginning to close their doors, laughter fading into the distance, while the city’s heartbeat softened into a steady nocturnal rhythm.
Yet beneath the elegance and charm lurked something darker.
There always was.
A sleek black sedan glided through the sleeping streets, its engine purring smoothly as it cut through the night. Inside sat two of France’s most feared assassins.
Julian Loki occupied the driver’s seat, one hand resting lazily on the steering wheel. His posture was relaxed, almost careless, but the sharpness in his eyes betrayed the truth. Nothing escaped his notice.
Beside him, Vivien Hugo methodically reloaded his revolver.
Click.
A bullet slid into place.
Click.
Another followed.
His movements were precise and economical, each action performed with the detached efficiency of a machine running through a routine maintenance check. Once finished, he inspected the weapon one final time before resting it on his lap.
Silence settled comfortably between them.
Then Loki’s eyes flickered toward the rearview mirror.
Once.
Twice.
A third time.
His expression remained unchanged, but a faint crease formed between his brows.
That car again.
He had noticed it earlier.
At first, he assumed it was a coincidence. Lyon wasn’t exactly deserted, and sharing a route with another vehicle wasn’t unusual.
But two hours had passed.
Two hours.
Yet the sedan behind them remained.
Always there.
Always at the same distance.
Always following.
A traffic light shifted from red to green, and for a brief moment the glow illuminated the face of the driver trailing them.
Loki narrowed his eyes.
Recognition came instantly.
One of their enemies.
A hitman from a rival district.
And judging from the silhouette seated beside him, he hadn’t come alone.
A slow grin tugged at the corner of Loki’s mouth.
“Well,” he murmured. “That’s interesting.”
Across from him, Hugo looked up immediately.
He hadn’t seen the car yet.
But he had seen Loki.
And that alone was enough.
Years of working together had taught him how to read the smallest changes in his partner’s behavior.
Something was wrong.
“Zoom.”
His voice cut through the silence.
“We’re being trailed.”
The statement wasn’t a question.
It was a conclusion.
Hugo lowered the window without another word, cool night air rushing into the vehicle. His gaze shifted toward the side mirror as his mind rapidly processed every detail.
Vehicle model.
Distance.
Speed.
Wind resistance.
Potential weapons.
Probability of engagement.
“Loki.”
Just his name.
Nothing more.
Nothing less.
The meaning was understood immediately.
Loki’s grin widened.
“Got it.”
The engine roared.
The sedan surged forward like a predator finally deciding to sprint.
Buildings blurred past them.
Streetlights became streaks of gold.
Behind them, the pursuing car accelerated as well.
Inside the enemy vehicle, the passenger leaned out of the window.
A revolver.
Smith & Wesson Model 686.
The identification appeared instantly within Hugo’s mind.
Caliber.
Effective range.
Reload speed.
Threat level.
Calculated.
The man raised the weapon.
Hugo moved first.
In one fluid motion, he climbed into the back seat and pushed himself through the open window. Half his body hung outside the speeding vehicle, dark hair whipping violently in the wind.
His expression never changed.
Calm.
Focused.
Mathematical.
A single shot rang through the night.
CRACK.
The bullet slammed directly into the enemy windshield.
Glass exploded outward in a shower of sparkling fragments.
The rival assassins flinched instinctively, their vehicle swerving violently across the road.
Hugo didn’t hesitate.
A second shot.
A third.
Both front tires burst almost simultaneously.
The pursuing car immediately lost control.
Rubber screamed against asphalt.
The vehicle fishtailed violently before spinning across the empty street.
Mission accomplished.
Hugo calmly slipped back inside the sedan and pulled the window shut as though nothing unusual had happened.
The silence returned.
Loki glanced toward the rearview mirror and watched the disabled vehicle disappear into the distance.
A low whistle escaped him.
“Nice one, Hugo.”
Hugo slid the revolver into the inner pocket of his blazer and adjusted his sleeve.
His pulse hadn’t changed.
Neither had his expression.
After a brief moment of consideration, he nodded.
“Mission success.”
A pause.
Then, in the same flat tone:
“Beep-beep.”
For a second, silence hung in the car.
Then Loki burst into laughter, the sound echoing through the empty streets of Lyon as they disappeared into the night, leaving nothing behind but tire marks, shattered glass, and two very unfortunate assassins wondering where everything had gone wrong.
