lifelong depression has absolutely fried my brain everyone tells me "just do the thing you want to do and enjoy doing in order to improve at it" and i look at them like they're a fucking alien with unnatural powers

#i struggle deeply with this too #if im not done within one sleep i probably never finish it #this is incompatible with my pursuit to be an animator #luckily your WIPs don't vanish when you put them down and if you write a little note #about what direction you're going in it's easier to go back into the flow #setting small goals at a time also helps #my latest painting took me 5 days #+ a few days where i didnt work on it but kept it in my mind #every time i would finish one aspect or refine one aspect #and then it was done! neat #right now im working on an animation project #i listen to the song im using for it 10 times a day even if im not planning on working on it #i have to take breaks to protect my wrist from more damage #i really want to Finish this and not let it rot in my wips folder for eternity #best of luck to you it isnt easy. i hope you find what works

the wisdom ive learnt is that becoming part of a friend group 1) takes a long time and 2) involves a lot of feeling awkward and left out at first. there’s nothing terrible about this but if you grew up chronically lonely or have any kind of trauma relating to social isolation this likely feels Really Wrong and activates danger signals. but both fortunately and unfortunately it’s just how becoming close to new people works most of the time

another thing that was not intuitive to me as someone who grew up an autistic loner: basically everyone on the planet is starved for connection all the time and almost everything people do is an attempt to reach out to another. most seemingly illogical interactions and behaviours can be explained by this. you have to take as many of these invitations as you can. even if you're wrong you still attempted to bring more warmth into the world

#and dont just wait for people to invite you because most people just Wait until They are invited #invite people. invite people lots.#'i wish there was a community for this niche-' make it.
