Zac Efron is going to take all of us on his foodie adventures. MTV has announced that the actor will host and executive produce a documentary special for the network that will “explore the ever-expanding role of food and the culinary arts in Millennial culture,” according to a release. Network president Sean Atkins tells Mashable that Efron’s years traveling and genuine appreciation for all types of food made MTV excited about working with the actor on a project that’ll mark a departure for Efron. The untitled project will, he adds, be less Anthony Bourdain-esque and more of an exploration of subjects that interest Efron. “It’s not necessarily about the cuisine — like, Oh, I ate pig guts or Wow, this is the best steak I’ve ever had. It’s more about the cultural impact of food for our audience,” he tells Mashable. “He’s really passionate about it. He’s so excited about it.” The show does not yet have a premiere date.

Zac interrupting Jake Szymanski’s interview for a selfie.
Zac would've look like a potato next to the Rock if he hadn't bulked up so it was pretty much a given that he'd look a lot bigger (muscular-wise) for this movie lol. It is a big change and we're not used to it. Also I think that careerwise his movie choices will change in his 30s when he realizes he can't keep playing 21-ish/college guys anymore. And I believe Baywatch is action/comedy, so he'll get a first taste of the 'action' genre. That might even inspire him. He still has plenty of time.
Like I said in my other post, the role in Baywatch did require him to bulk up, however that doesn’t really change that I (and some others) think that him being super bulky doesn’t really suit his body type. I don´t think it has anything to do, for me at least, with “not being used to him being so bulky”, because he has been really bulky before that already and my thoughts were similar before also… he just increased that even more now and to me it just looks a bit too much on him. Like I said before, though, his looks or his body isn’t the reason why I am a fan of his, so as long as he achieved this look in a naturally healthy manner, I am not really bothered by that at all in general. It´s just my personal preference of the way I think he looks best because of his body type, height, etc. Plus it doesn’t really change the spray tan situation which I am not loving at all in all honesty and I think he would look better without that being so overdone (but I guess that´s part of the character) or the fact that he is constantly shown shirtless and reduced to that more than I and others would like it especially recently, tbh.
Don´t get me wrong I get what you are saying and you aren’t wrong about the whole career thing, that´s why I said I still have hope that he might change things up again eventually. However, Hollywood just isn’t as easy as to simply depend solely on the choices/wishes of the actor. He needs to be taken seriously in the business and he needs to be offered those good roles in order to even have a chance to pick them. (Or he really needs to create some of his own projects for himself the way he wants them to but even then he has to rely on studio execs to trust him and grant him enough responsibility to give him a go.) Like I said though, Zac can still turn it around and maybe some of the roles he has coming up will be better characters/stories than they are made out to be at the moment. Talking about Baywatch in particular, we´ll have to see how the movie itself pans out in the end. I´m just not loving the whole reducing to shirtlessness so much for promo upfront and I hope that the movie itself finds a better balance and doesn´t exploit this too much, unlike for example DG (as sad as it makes me to say this). I do think there could be potential in Baywatch that way if it is done right.Â
To be honest, for him to mix it up all he really needs is just the right person to trust in him enough with the right project and that ONE good script/role, a well-written one that perfectly showcases his talent in all of its facettes. Something that kinda does what Neighbors (in its genre) did for him again. Roles like that are, like I said, not the easiest to find and it takes time, he is allowed to make mistakes and test the waters, but that doesn´t mean that certain things can´t get frustrating for us in the meantime. I personally would love for him to be more picky about the roles he chooses in the meantime. Right now, I do think he is either just wanting to have “fun”, is taking on what he is offered or he is taking on projects that are more safe to do well at the box office (or a combination of these points). That is ok for a while but I just really, really hope he doesn´t pigeon whole himself, which is a risk he is taking and a line he is walking right now. Like I said though there are a few things that IMO, will have to change if he wants to prevent that from happening. JMO
