one thing i think of rerir is he has cemented it in himself that he must serve some kind of use to someone or he will break down; to be their companion, to be their weapon. if he cannot find himself to fit into some of clear use for someone he will reject him out of fear because he has never seen himself outside of a context to just be a dog for someone

he very much wants to still have a relationship with dainsleif but the struggle comes from him being unclear on how far he's allowed to go before he's gone past usefulness and has just become a burden. this is kinda how i see him not being open on vulnerability

another note on rerir is he does not have anything left EXCEPT dainsleif; tholindis is dead, his nation is gone with its citizens being monsters scattered around teyvat and its been revealed he has no relationship aside from ved with the other sinners

i think there's desperation in wanting to cling to the only remaining thing from his old life. but rerir is quick for desperation to become overwhelming obsession
