He also has guts. Guts to go against his parents (who didn't support his hobby for singing at the start) and earn money for his vocal lessons himself, guts to drop out of school (in SK it's a big deal), guts to come close to the judges who evaluated trainees weekly, guts to aim high even if he is constantly worried and uncertain about the outcome. His desire to sing pushes him forward.

Psychologists say that if we have false dreams (I want to be rich, I want to be a celebrity - something we picked up from the society), then we won't act because the brain will be content just laying on the sofa and watching YT. A real dream, passion drives people to extremes. Like Tae wanted to debut so much he made other trainees practice till 5 am, while Do survived on raisings to quickly lose weigt after joining SM. And how Ten or Yuta moved to another country and learnt a new language.

Do said several times that his mother taught him (by example) that nothing comes without effort and that it's important to work dilligently.

I think one of the hardest things is to believe in oneself. Do always did, so he dreamt big. You are right about the set of character traits that allowed him to become who he is. Few are born with them. There is a price though. There are people who are happy with everyday mandane life, small things, their families. People like Do would go nuts, they need to channel their energy in achieving things, going places.

I should say that Do wasn't super lucky. That would mean being born with an exeptional voice and song-writing skills to skip the idol phase and go straight to stardom as a soloist. He wasn't chosen into 127 at first, 127 didn't achieve the success as quickly as Exo, he couldn't sing live or perform on festivals with a band for a long time. He worked with what he had, took the longer path. The opportunities that present themselves to him now wouldn't be possible several years ago.

Speaking of his social skills. I've heard many times that building connections is the most important thing for success. Leave a good impression on people, they can call you back in a few years with an offer... heh.

Ah, a reader after my heart. I did more analyzes at the beginning, when I received much less questions, so most of the material is in the posts from the winter-spring months. 

Yes, I write on Jae’s character and brain type here and there. Like this one and this. 

Jaehyun is easy to understand if you imagine him with multiple layers. At times you see the inner layers, at times the outer ones. They differ, so is the impression one gets from him.

1) At the core there is the Inner child. The world is full of wonder for him. This child is kind and inquisitive. He wants to explore and to play. 

We see the glimpses, when Jae: blows out dandelions, interacts with dogs and children, films ants in the desert, runs freely like a puppy, imitates a veloceraptor, pretends to be bitten by a plush snake, decorates a hat with flowers, observes his friends with adoration. His core desire to explore makes him like to travel, look for new artists and music, visit art museums, watch documentaries. He is polite and accepting of people, not judgmental.

2) The next layer is shyness and insecurities. Although the Child is adventurous and is not afraid of the elements, jungles, trials, he lacks innate socialisation skills. He doesn’t know how to approach people and needs to be approached first. Growing up he learns the ways, but it is still difficult for him and not intuitive. He doesn’t “feel” people well, having low empathy. Not being able to perceive the mood of another person easily, see social clues, share the feeling, he is not good at receiving feedback. Am I welcomed? Do they like me? Did I do everything the right way? Would I bother them? That’s why he needs other people telling him “you did good”, that’s why he is overachiever of sorts. Achievements give him security, make him believe in himself more. 

After many years of being an idol Jae still stutters at times, when he talks on interviews and it takes him several attempts to interrupt somebody, to switch attention to himself. He is not that bold, agressive guy with “listen to me when I talk” posture. He is very agreeable, it takes Jungwoo’s levels of pestering to make Jae start to be slightly agressive first (as preemptive measure). 

Jae loses his shyness during competitive games and sports, because it’s not socialisation based on feelings and mutual understanding, it’s active exploration of the physical world.  

3) Stubborness and determination. The sense of right. Truthfulness. Jae likes to try new things and achieve goals. It stems from his need to explore, but is rather a unique characteristic of his own. Not many people can push themselves that hard. He wants to excel in everything. For his brain type the world has inner beauty, everything needs to be balanced and as perfect as possible (sometimes the perfection is chaos though). He applies this view to himself too. He wants a nice body not only to feel accepted (they will like me if I’m handsome), but to be a perfect idol. In a sense, he can’t sell people his face if its not perfect, that would be fraud. He said he wants to be an example to others. He had problems having fun and enjoying himself during the first concerts of the tour, because he was so concentrated on doing everything right.

The inner sense of truth and right prevents him from pretending. The fanservice with Tae was hard for him, because it went against his true feelings, he had to lie. I have a boyfriend, I can’t touch intimately another man! On the other hand, he has no problem playing a seductor from the office. He will get red ears afterwards, but everything for the art.

4) Inner adult. Independence and self-reliance. Another side of having low empathy is not being dependant on authority and opinion of society. Approval of another person is only one way of being sure you do something well. If the field is not human relationships, that is. The reality too gives you feed back. Jae has opinions he stands by. If he decides he doesn’t care about a certain person, he won’t be hurt by their thoughts about him. He chooses his own authorities, not the ones society gives him. He follows Doyoung not because he is a spineless follower, but because it’s his choice. That’s why he is comfortable with his orientation despite Korean realities. 

Jae is more comfortable with dropping of honorifics for the same reason. 

With age Jae relies on himself more and more, trying less and less to win over people around him. If in the past he was “please love me” puppy, now he is content with the chosen few and doesn’t open up (become the vulnarable Inner child) easily. Independence is an escape from struggles of “dealing with human feelings”. Sometimes people go too far, but Jae, growing up and living with 8 other people, learnt to balance it. Most probably he would have become much more closed off if he grew up along. EnNaNa also helped him.

5) The wall of indiffirence. Jae is a rational, logical person. He thinks before he talks. He is secure with his rational side and it is comfortable to be in a balanced, inside oriented, unaffected by outward commotion and turmoils state. Introverts build their own world, live in a kind of a bubble. Music, scented candles, tight circle of friends, work outs. When he is affected by feelings, however, he loses control over himself. He becomes jealous in public or jumps off his chair in exitement. Some people live in this manner all the time, they are like sea-gulls on the waves of stormy sea, perfectly fine with being tossed around, they can still swim in the chosen direction. But Jae is not, so he tries to “keep a poker face”, to not give in to emotions.

A working dog is such a fitting comparison for Jae, because dogs were selected to stay puppies in wolf’s skin. A German shepherd (working line, police dog) is both the big eared overenthusiastic, owner approval seeking big puppy and a working mashine capable of killing. You can put chicks on them and they won’t know what to do with the fluffy balls, stay still not to damage them, but do not even look the wrong way at their human, you can end up without a hand.

Jae demonstrates similar contrast. Silly and playful one time, serious and hardworking another time. Open and welcoming, closed off and icy. Insecure and full of determination. Etc.

Today Doyoung reminded me once again why I keep stanning him. Under all that nessessary fanservice (fancalls, fanmeets with dressing up, aegyo, cuteness) and paper chase (brands, ads) is a true passionate singer with a selfmade man mindset.

Doyoung wasn't kidding when he said he wanted to be a stage director in the future a few years back. The way he changed some stages, continued with DY Track, used his drama/musical roles to bring in variety (to the chant guide) and new surprises.

Doyoung was in his prime vocally. The best I've heard him so far. And he got those "yes, I nailed it" tiny satisfied smirks here and there.

0:06 and 0:26 - Doyoung touches Jaehyun's hand. I told you many times that it is Doyoung's strong habit (not only with Jae). Back in 2017 Doyoung stopping touching Jaehyun was one of the alarming signs of a profound change. And during "the ban" you could observe how Doyoung stopped his hand midair or retreived it quickly from Jae's shoulder/arm, remembering to correct his habit.

0:27-0:30 - Jaehyun-ie at his usual. Eating up everything Doyoung is saying. Notice how he turned his body slightly to have a better look of Do. Jungwoo is forgotten. Heh, Jaehyun even leaned on the wall for a second there, immersed.

0:31 - Jaehyun a main singer, that was nice

1:10 - heh. Jaehyun is in the role of the instructor, he says they are going to start the stretching. Woo: "Yes (understand)". Doyoung: "Five, four...". Doyoung started the count when it's not his role to be the leader. Habits.

1:31 - I keep telling you "attack" is Doyoung's solution for everything, lol. He keeps sabotaging his own carefully crafted image.

2:28 - Doyoung started to laugh before he heard the end of the sentence. Was he just quick to realise what Jae was going to say, or does Jae say this sentence in a daily life, it's a running theme?

2:38 - "Out of nowhere" Doyoung is back.

3:14 (and 3:20) - Doyoung showing the result to Jaehyun. And the verbal exchange. Look at Jaehyun so motivated and talkative, heh. Like in good old times. Also, the speed Jae said he "nomu chouhwa" amidst his speech about NCTzens. Didn't make Do wait even for a second.

Sidenote: Have you seen fans making compilations of Doyoung sitting leg on leg and Jaehyun sitting with legs spread out? Fans tried to make a point (babygirl vs frat boy, or whatever are the current fanon images) by cherry picking pictures. In reality both sit both ways. Not only idols and their companies construct an image for an idol, fans do it too. A lot of fans don't watch the content (or little of it, sporadically) and rely on gifs and schreenshots of their chosen moots. As such, they start to perceive an idol through the eyes of these active in the fandom fans who create mainstream narratives/character interpretations.

3:44 - Jaehyun pressing "upload" instead of Do reminded me how he took Do's phone to choose music in the past.

5:20 - Ah, why did the cut the exchange, I want Do's facial expression. It is very interesting Jaehyun thanked Do for keeping up with the topic. His tone of voice. He wrapped it up for the cameras (thank you for the reaction), but it wasn't the initial goal.

5:35 - The scene was cut, but looks like Jae waited for Woo to hand him the tablet (instead of just taking it).

This is a wide smile that was directed at Jungwoo. Amused Do in a happy mood. The corners of the lips are stretched to the sides, the eyes look more like slits.

And the smiles during noticing Jae filming him or talking to him. The lip corners turn up, the eyes are crescent-shaped, and there are often crinkles near the corners of the eyes. This slight change of expression adds bashfulness to the way Do looks. He is more mirthful than amused. More coy, less sassy.

And this cut shows well that this emotion comes on its own (it's reflexive, Jaehyun doesn't need to do much, just to be himself and insinuate the probability of teasing/banter or secretly film Do), when Do catches himself doing it before cameras, he drops it to appear non-affected.

Between DoWoo and DoJae you can tell that Do has resistance towards Woo's antics and teasing (he normally stands his ground), but with Jae he gives up being too whipped.

It's easier to see in motion how the corners of the mouth keep twitching because the emotion bubbles up.

Adorable Jaehyun-ie must be adored.

Jae teased Do here and got this disarmed instant agreement. This moment is illustrative in particular because JaeDo pretended to be distant (remember the bts pictures they took, lol). However, Do isn't capable of keeping himself in check for long.

The famous "do you like kissing" misunderstanding. Jaehyun's body language spills everything and in detail.

Will notice only in passing, but Jae has a habit of instantly covering his chest with his arms in protection against an incoming "attack", which makes me wonder how handsy Do actually gets in real life for this habit to exist. (Remember the DJJ moment during album cover photoshoot when Do asked what JaeWoo were saying about him while it was his turn to shoot)

Oh, the animosity.

Different relationship dynamics work differently, so comparison is a must.
