Tried to make them in this trend🙂↕️I just think this is kinda fitting for spider. Tried really hard to make kiri's shawl😭😭
'IMPOSTER SYNDROME'🎭
It would be interesting if there were an exploration of Neytiri and Jake's feelings about the whole sacrifice bit. The fact that Spider quickly forgives and forgets is...unsettling and wrong in so many ways. Jake being Jake gets over it quickly and doesn't talk about it, but Neytiri observes Spider closely at all times, searching for something that she can't find and coming up blank. The boy is his usual cheerful self, and Neytiri finds that deeply disturbing. Try as she might, she can't remember a single time Spider has EVER gotten angry with her or Jake.
Abandoning him to the RDA, the Sea Dragon, and finally, plotting to sacrifice him and almost going through with it... This would have killed a child's spirit and left them paranoid and vengeful. Spider is that demon's son, and even after everything he's gone through, he has shown no signs of hate or anger. It's deeply worrisome and leaves her worried for Spider's mental state.
Spider facing some inner turmoil 🚨
I just read a Spider one-shot. Where he finally gets angry and has a grudge about how the Na'vi treat him, with the help of Quaritch manipulation. Although I don't think it is so much manipulation, if not rather, he told him everything they have done it and I don't cast the Na'vi for him.
They did not look for him when he was kidnapped.
They never accepted it.
And then Neytiri happens, the boy returns to the Sullys, Ronal gets a tattoo on him, which is now supposed to mean he is part of the clan. But they still push him to the front when Quaritch comes to find Jake.
"Now the same people who had chanted his name were handing him over.
Tawtute. Just a human for them."
If Quaritch had been a little softer with the guy, like in this fic, maybe he would have it already.
The boy feels betrayed, dressed like them, combed like them, walked, thought, hunted and worshiped Eywa like them. They accepted Jake, even scientists who had no avatars, but not him. And yet they hand it over.
"They don't care about you. I do."
"They only care about themselves and their families."
Feeling the embrace of his father again, but now it is Spider who embraces him who throws himself into his arms.
"Burn them all.”
I need more fiics like these. Spider, who realizes that the Na'vis tolerate him and that although the children are a treasure for them and are protected, he is not, he is only the son of the demon. They do not even see him as a child, only as a stencil of his father.

i have female chat blanc for the au as well
i haven't felt this way since the reveal of stanley's twin and the reveal of rose quartz's identity
something lurking
I heard people are allowed to have opinions so mine is; I don’t like most AUs where Quaritch gets a child because, weirdly, Spider is always missing from those AUs, and that one tiny detail throws absolutely everything off.
Quaritch isn’t just randomly a good person. He is good because of Spider. Everything remotely merciful he’s done in the franchise is tied to that kid, and Spider is the only person who we saw, on screen, bring out a softer side to the man.
The idea of him being a perfect dad but with Spider completely out of the picture implies that he was always “good”. That he was just 🥺misunderstood🥺, or worse, that it took a newborn baby to change him when in reality, that change was set in motion ENTIRELY by Spider. Without him, Miles kills left and right with absolutely zero remorse.
Not only does Spider’s absence mess up Quarich’s character, it messes up Spider as well. Quaritch was the first grown up in his life to genuinely put him first over and over again, to pay attention and be patient with him. To have Quaritch essentially throw the boy to the curb because he has another hild makes him look like a horrible person no matter what way you twist it. He traumatised and then abandoned a kid instead of doing the work of changing or taking on responsibility. And I think that’s the other frustrating thing about all those AUs.
Miles either has an ash baby, meaning he now gets to have his father fantasy without changing whatsoever, or he gets a Na’vi baby and changes gears completely, which means Spider wasn’t good enough to change for.
Quaritch is a horrible father in every au where Spider is missing because of all these factors. Being a good dad to one kid does not cancel out the other. It makes him look like a monster who used Spider as a "trial and error child" and only put in the real effort when a better, "pure" child came into his life.
It makes you wonder why Spider couldn’t have the "good" father. Why he couldn’t have the father who cared enough to protect him from RDA and change for him. Why did he have to get the dad who burned villages and threw him into the labs to be tested on? Was he too impure? Too dirty?Too much baggage? Spoiled goods?
Anyway, that’s it. That’s the post. I recognise that people who make these AUS aren’t thinking about any story implications. I know none of those aus are this deep. They just wanna see the character they simp for be a picture perfect (most often) girl dad, and that’s okay. I just keep coming back to the hypotheticals of an au like that from time to time and wanted to share lol. I’m not saying no-one is allowed to make aus like this, relax, this is just my opinion.

A re do of an old edit!
"We're trying so hard for a baby—" and Lo'ak looks over at Spider with this face
I JUST KNOW THESE TWO ARE THE MOST IMMATURE EVER 😔
Trio edit!
Of course, the more I watch the sacrifice scene, the angrier I get because even the way Jake spoke to Spider and led him off into the forest was like a dog owner gently coaxing his old, troubled pet off into the trees to be put down. That's how little Spider meant to him. By the end of the day, Spider was just a troublesome pet Jake tried and failed to abandon on the side of the road, and when that didn't work, he resorted to putting him down because he was just becoming too troublesome to take care of.
You know how Spider haters would make these things where Spider was Sully family dog? I never really paid attention to it until this scene. Because this is where it really seemed like he was never a person to Jake (Neytiri obviously too but she wasn't hiding it - he was always just an alien to her). Jake just takes Spider to that forest like he was a dog that was too hard to take care any more and you don't want to spend money on his treatment. It easier to just get rid of him and tell the kids he went to live in a farm upstate.
I know the film expects us to believe Jake loves Spider so much he rather endangers the world than harm him but that's not what it establishes. It never shows us Jake actually caring outside general taking care of a kid when it's not to inconvenient to his family. It never shows there is any parental care on Jake's side. And then it just but actually Jake loves him like a son.
No, he doesn't. He would never leave his kids behind like he did Spider. he would never take them to the woulds. He doesn't love Spider like that. At most this is the kind of love that gets you on the news about the father that shot his kids because life is too hard and he didn't want his wife to get custody. Jake would so lose at that King Solomon court to Quaritch.
It feels like being gaslit when Jake talks about love because we see at the same time Quaritch who, for all his other faults, actually loves Spider no matter his mission, his beliefs or even Spider's rejection. The kid tries to kill him and he still jumps after him. Spider isn't even allowed to be angry at Jake and Neytiri after murder attempt. The contrast makes that scene feel even more fake and creepy on rewatch.
And then there is the fact that Spider is just accepting that this is love. That he is grateful. That he has no complains. It makes it feel culty. Like he has been so convinced his whole life that he deserves all the shitty treatment for these adults because he has to atone for the original sin of being Quaritch's son that nothing they do is something he would fault them for. Fighting only gets you rejection and being send away but if you take it long enough they will let you sleep inside the house. Really, like an abused dog that keep trying to please for the scraps of attention.
It’s genuinely hard to believe any adult cares about him tbh…even Quatritch when that’s supposed to be his whole thing
They all failed him one way or another.
To a point where spider in the next addition of the series is gonna be an adult.
There’s no more room to fix this. He quite seriously aged out of a fucked foster system.
You know what? I would have taken the Sacrifice scene so much more seriously if Spider hadn't forgiven them and begun to distrust them. Years of turning the other cheek and being the bigger person despite his VERY young age, almost getting murdered by his childhood hero, should have been the straw that broke the camel's back for Spider; it should have broken his mind and turned him into a paranoid cynic.
It would have been the perfect example of how some things just cannot be rebuilt from the ashes. What's broken is broken and can never be fixed. Unfortunately, we'll never get any scenes of Spider being legitimately angry because the moment he expresses any negative emotions, he'll automatically be labeled as a possible traitor or an evil gremlin determined to ruin everything.
I actually have a teeny tiny playlist of weird, eerie, and deeply unnerving songs that remind me of Spider x Kiri.
I mean, the romance between a seven-foot-tall, blue-skinned alien who is possibly the daughter of her people's goddess and a six-foot-tall human boy who somehow ended up more Na'vi than human is going to look a little… unsettling to anyone meeting them for the first time. In a way, the two of them together are uncanny. They're familiar, yet strange enough that your brain keeps trying to process what it's looking at. Yes, their relationship represents the bridge between two worlds, but together, Spider x Kiri is eerie, surreal, and dreamlike. I chose a couple of songs that lean into the uncanniness surrounding the pairing.

people want spider to be the villain so badly.
they think that spider will turn against the na’vi just because jack champion described the script for avatar 4 as “pretty dark.” i can see him needing space from jake and neytiri so he can process all they put him through, but there’s no way in hell he’ll join quaritch and varang and the rda.
Switch AU where Jake and Neytiri actually want to adopt and love Spider as one of their own; however, the boy himself is incredibly bitter and full of misplaced anger over the fact that they 'murdered' his parents. So while not openly hostile, the relationship between them (and by extension between him and the rest of the Na'vi) stays incredibly cool. A situation that is not helped at all by the fact that he's still being forced to live with the obviously abusive McCoskers who keep on whispering more and more lies into his ear.
