Oh, I've been thinking about an AU somewhat related to ASOIAF/HOTD/GOT lately;
What if Varang were the queen of dragons? She'd have three dragons, one hers, and the other would go to Quaritch if they got mated, leaving the youngest dragon without a rider. And then Spider gets kidnapped, and the last dragon chooses him. Spider, of course, doesn't want him because dragons are perceived by the Na'vi (not including the Mangkwans) as spreading fire and destruction creatures, but the beast simply won't leave him alone, and Varang sees this as a sign that the child belongs to her and wants him to be her heir.Just imagine the Sullies reaction if they suddenly saw Spider trying hard to get away from the winged creature, which every now and then touches him with its snout and tries to get his attention.
Uhhh I like it! Imma need to doctor around with the worldbuilding a little but, but I think I can figure it out well enough.
So, unlike how it works in canon ASOIAF, I shall say that in this AU the whole dragon rider thing isn't explicitly passed along DNA. It does, however, generally go that way. Furthermore, instead of being either overthrown or ruling the whole of Westeros, Varang/the Mangkwans only rule the largest chunk of it. Leaving the rest to be ruled over by their rival houses, the Omatikaya and Metkayina.
Quaritch never died in this AU, but he was still defeated during a war by Jake (one of his former guards) and produced Spider as a bastard son with Paz (whom he would have married to legitimise the kid if she hadn't died). He ends up mating with Varang later on and claiming his dragon shortly after the wedding, though they don't have any children due to Varang not particularly enjoying the idea of childbirth (dangerous af in medieval times and also she thinks being pregnant would weaken her due to the strain it puts on the body).
Spider would be raised in Jake and Neytiri's court as a knight for their own children, partially out of mercy, partially out of a slightly messed-up sense of justice. If the father hurt the realm, then it's only right his son- even his bastard son- serves it in return, right? He'd be made squire to a household knight (probably McCosker, who definitely mistreated the poor kid in this too) and end up showing great promise and talent with the blade, eventually being knighted at ~15 and made to guard Kiri as a sworn shield on her request.
The kidnapping happens when, during what was supposed to be a routine travel between the capital and a summer residence of her family, Kiri and her entourage get attacked by Mangkwan forces looking to start another war. Spider jumps in immediately and valiantly fights them off, making sure Kiri and most of her servants escape at the cost of him being captured and taken back to Varang + Quaritch.
From there on things would go about as well as one would expect. The kid is brought before his father who recognises and confirms his identity. Varang is intrigued about this bastard child of her husband, whom he believed dead like his mother, and orders him to come closer. This is also when her youngest dragon (I imagine they keep all three in the throne room with them during meetings like these to create some scare factor) starts going absolutely bonkers over the kid and claims him as his rider for all to see.
Spider is not happy. Like. At all. Varang, on the other hand, is ecstatic about the fact that the heir issue has been solved without her needing to go through pregnancy. Made only better by the fact that he has also proven himself an incredibly strong and capable fighter. Quaritch is just happy to have his son back and that his wife likes his son and is planning to make him their heir while the dragons are just happy to all have found their destined rider. The Mangkwan at large are very joyous for their Queen too.
All of which is to say: Everyone but Spider (now fully stripped of his Omatikayan armour and put in the royal garb of the Magkwan kingdom and Varang's dynasty) are incredibly happy when the poor kid is forcefully presented to the land. His dragon will not leave him alone, and he feels horrible for "leaving" Kiri and "betraying" the Sullies.
All of that being said however, and knowing that yeah- they would freak tf out about Spider's newfound dragon- I do also enjoy the idea of him ending up unable to run away and remaining the unwilling heir and son of Quarang within the Mangkwan. Especially when Kiri ends up equally forcefully engaged to the Prince of Dragonstone and future heir to the Iron Throne to end the war against the Mangkwan.
