The problem with Gabriella in tVL is that all the characters have been abusive in some fashion so far, especially Lestat (the drop???), so this idea that because Gabrielle is an abusive parent it's good to portray her with zero nuance and likeability is bizarre to me. We are literally watching a show portraying Lestat as a sympathetic character.

Gabrielle being an abusive mother, doesn't mean we can't at least catch glimpses of what circumstances turned her into this. It's also incredibly frustrating when half of her abusive actions in the show are explicit contradictions to her book character.

For example, her bringing Lestat to the witch burning; in the book, she is explicitly mad about it and calls it ignorant and barbaric. In the show she apparently thought it great entertainment? (Maybe that's just a jab by Lestat, but the fact that it lines up with her characterisation thus far doesn't help) Which is strange since society brutally punishing women (or female presenting people) for acting beyond their accepted social role should be a plight Gabrielle is deeply sympathetic to.

Then there is her relationship to Nicki. In the show she mocks Nicki's madness, calls him a cabbage directly comparing him to her abusive husband and sons. That's the exact opposite of her book character. There she literally starts taking care of him, teaching him to hunt and navigate the world as a vampire. She is arguably being more mothering to fledgling vampire Nicki than she ever was to Lestat. Which parallels the fact that while she was dying Nicki was the one who took care of her in Lestat's stead. Lestat actually gets jealous about how close they become.

Gabrielle was by no means a perfect mother in the book. I would even argue she was a horrible mother, but they still had an interesting and nuanced dynamic. There was a tragedy to how desperately Lestat needed his mother's affection and how the trauma surrounding her forced marriage and forced childbearing made Gabrielle incapable of giving it to him. So far none of this made it meaningfully to the screen. The only tragedy here is that Lestat still gives her the time of day night. Even at Lestat's most abusive in season 1, the show still allowed him some nuance. The same goes for Armand and he fucking killed Claudia. So why not Gabriella. Why must she be viewed as uniquely vile among a cast of monsters?

i am #nolongeraskinnytwig . its interesting now to see how people view my weight as fat. i mean, i haven’t received a solid opinion irl yet.

my body distributes most of my fat evenly so while the weight gain is noticeable, people still do the “oh please you’re not fat” spiel with me. but my grandma still obviously has an issue with it. idk, i dont mind my weight i just wish i was better at making fat into muscle but im a naturally squishy person so theres no helping it until i make the decision to work out (years from now💀 i am currently in bed absolutely aching from my shift. my knees arent used to carrying me around and i already dealt with bad leg pain before any weight gain so imagine how its only got worse 😔)
